Furthermore, the nature of form, etc., that arises from the mind, becomes individually undetermined because it is not the nature of the mind. Therefore, it is not established as the nature of the mind by the reason that form, etc., are the objects of consciousness. If someone were to say, "The phenomena that arise from the mind are the distinctions of the mind's state, so the mind and what arises from the mind are not different in nature. Therefore, the mind and what arises from the mind are not individually undetermined," then the answer to that is: If you were to truly say that the mind and what arises from the mind are one in nature, that would be proving what is already proven, because in reality all phenomena are non-dual. However, if you were to say that the mind and what arises from the mind are one in nature in conventional terms, that would also contradict your own tenets. What is the nature of your tenets? The nature is: 'Seeing the meaning in that is consciousness; the distinctions of that are what arise from the mind.' Because that is said. It means that merely seeing the nature of the meaning in that object is consciousness, and knowing the distinctions of that meaning is what arises from the mind. This contradicts what arises from your own tenets, so it is not permissible to say that the mind and what arises from the mind are one in nature in conventional terms. As before, there is also the fault of the proposition. This is because if you were to propose that in conventional terms, form, etc., are the nature of the mind and what arises from the mind, and that the mind and what arises from the mind are also one in nature, then there would be the faults of having no example, being harmed by fame, being undetermined, the arising of the Buddha becoming meaningless, and the meaning belonging to conventional truth appearing as non-existent, as shown before. Therefore, it is not permissible. Some people say: Regarding this, the consciousness of form, is the object of this consciousness a single atom of form, or an aggregate? For those who assert that there is no external object, such as the Yogacara school, then in which treatise do those who assert that there is an external object in conventional terms, such as the Madhyamaka school, assert that the object of the consciousness of form is an external form?

Now, is the object of this visual consciousness that takes form as its object a single atom of form? Or is it an aggregate? Since neither of these two is a valid object of visual consciousness, this treatise is taught to prove that external objects do not exist. First, to teach the treatise proving that a single external atom is not an object of visual consciousness. That is, a single atom of form is not the object of visual consciousness, because it is invisible. For example, like the eye. These are stated in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the reason, and the example. For example, just as the eye sense is not an object of visual consciousness because it is invisible, so too, a single atom of form is not an object of visual consciousness because it is invisible. Now, to teach the treatise proving that an aggregate of atoms is not an object of visual consciousness. If it is an aggregate, then it is not an object of visual consciousness, because it is not substantially existent, like the appearance of two moons. These are also stated in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the reason, and the example. For example, just as the appearance of two moons is not an object of visual consciousness because it is not substantially existent, so too, an aggregate of atoms, like an army, a forest, or a chariot, is imputed to the general aggregate, and therefore is not substantially existent, and therefore is not an object of visual consciousness. To that statement, the commentator here replies: If, in reality, visual consciousness itself is focused on form, and form itself is not an object of visual consciousness, if you negate that, then it is proving what is already proven. If you say that in conventional truth it is harmed by designation, then you have spoken. Because in reality, objects and consciousness are unborn, which is also established for the Madhyamaka school, and in conventional truth, objects and consciousness exist, because that is what is accepted by the world. Atoms and so on are not objects of sense consciousness, it is said.
