It is said, "Is it without fault?" etc. Because it is said so in the *Holy Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*, therefore, by means of these scriptures and inferences, the Mind-Only is established, they say. In order to answer their saying so, the explanation here itself does not establish the meaning of the inferences of the Yogācāras. Moreover, since they have also misinterpreted the scriptures, the Mind-Only without external objects cannot be established. But in the conventional truth, since external objects exist, consciousness is not empty of things like Caitra. Moreover, the scripture that says "Mind-Only" is to negate the agent and eater, etc., other than the mind, but not to negate external objects, in order to show that external objects can be established by other scriptures and reasoning. Therefore, having stated "Consciousness is empty of things," etc., what is its meaning? etc. This shows that for the time being, the meaning of the proposition "Consciousness is empty of things like Caitra" established by the Yogācāras is being examined. If its meaning is that it does not depend on external conditions, but consciousness arises from the cause of the seed of habit, then, through the words "if," etc., it is shown that if the proposition "Consciousness is empty of things like Caitra" established by the Yogācāras, as the Yogācāras themselves wish, does not depend on the condition of external objects, but the ālaya-vijñāna obtains its own habit, is the manner of arising of the ālaya-vijñāna itself as the cause of the seed of entering, and things, sentient beings, self, and consciousness, that is, objects, faculties, afflicted mind, and entering consciousness, etc.? This shows the refutation of the opponent's argument. Now, in order to show that it is unreasonable, it is said, "If it is truly shown that consciousness arises without depending on external conditions, then there is no example," etc. This shows that the example cited by the Yogācāras, that is, entering by obtaining one's own habit, like the mind in a dream, cannot be established in the ultimate truth. In this way, in the ultimate truth, since the mind in a dream that enters by obtaining its own habit has not yet arisen, the example of

Since the subject is not established, the opponent's proposition is not established. Just as the example in characteristics, it is to establish the subject that is recognized by both parties, and it should be shown by the power of the dharma to be established, because it is said in the scriptures. For the time being, if it shows that consciousness arises independently of external conditions in the ultimate sense, then it shows that it is not established because there is no example. Now, if it shows that consciousness arises independently of external conditions in the conventional sense, then it shows that it will be harmed by renown and will not be established. If it is said that it will be harmed by renown in the conventional sense, it is because in the conventional sense, it is recognized that consciousness arises depending on external conditions such as objects and senses. Similarly, the reasons of the Yogacharas, "because it has function" and "because it is a result" and "because it is impermanent" and "because it is immovable" and "because it is timely," etc., if these reasons show that consciousness arises independently of external conditions in the ultimate sense, then none of them will be established. Just as our scriptures say, what is the ultimate truth? If the mind cannot enter, what need is there to mention letters? Therefore, your reasons such as "because it has function" are not established in the ultimate sense for our side. If these reasons are shown in the conventional sense, then they will be harmed by renown. Just as in the world, consciousness having function, etc., without relying on external conditions such as objects and senses, these themselves are not produced, because in the world, the eyes see external objects, etc. Even measuring objects, it is also looking at external objects, relying on external conditions, and then it is considered that consciousness arises. By the power of the Buddha's blessing, or by the power of the gods, or the reason for the consciousness born from the consciousness that was first prophesied is uncertain, therefore it is said that the reasons of the Yogacharas such as "because it has function" are uncertain. Here, by the power of the Buddha's blessing
