It is without inherent existence. The Sutra says, 'That which is born from conditions, that is unborn.' Because it is in accordance with the words spoken. If someone asks, the Yogacharas say that which is born from the power of other conditions, not born from its own nature, is without inherent existence. The Sutra says that is the absence of inherent existence of birth, and it also exists in the ultimate sense. This is their statement. To answer them, the commentary says: Even so, it is following the words of the Madhyamikas, because it prevents birth from its own nature. It is said, if it is admitted that there is no birth from its own nature, that is the absence of inherent existence, as stated in the Sutra, even so, it is following the words of the Madhyamikas, and it must be shown that it is intended to exist in the ultimate sense. Previously, the Yogacharas said that when one does not observe the absence of inherent existence of the completely imputed, and does not grasp the nature of the dependent arising as a cause, therefore one does not see it as it is, at that time all objects of focus are pacified. Regarding the nature of the completely imputed, and its characteristic nature, the nature of the dependent arising, and its absence of inherent existence of birth, how the Yogacharas' observation is unreasonable, after showing that. Now the Yogacharas say that they do not grasp the nature of the dependent arising as a cause, therefore they do not see it as it is. In order to show that this observation is unreasonable, how the Yogacharas do not grasp the nature of the dependent arising as a cause, therefore they do not see it as it is, the observation is stated. If it is said that if it does not exist as it appears, the Yogacharas say that the nature of the dependent arising does not exist as it appears, therefore they do not grasp the cause of the completely imputed, therefore they do not see it as it is. This is their statement. To this, the Madhyamikas ask, why does it not exist like that? To this, the Yogacharas say, if it is not born like that in the ultimate sense.
