It is said in the Sutra. Its meaning is that if there is birth, there will be attachment; if there is cessation, there will be slander. The yogi who does not have even a little birth, nor a little cessation, and sees that beings are separated from the two extremes, for him, there is neither existence nor non-existence, and he does not cling to attachment or fall into the edge of slander, so he will not degenerate, this is what is taught. In this way, it is unreasonable for the Yogacharas to regard the dependent nature as the basis of complete defilement and complete purification, and to regard it as truly existent. The Madhyamikas say that there is no birth in the ultimate sense, which is not to slander complete defilement and complete purification. How do you explain how the realm of phenomena becomes completely defiled and completely purified? This is the Madhyamikas asking the Yogacharas, how do you think that the dependent nature is the basis of complete defilement and complete purification, how does it become like that? As an answer to this question, the Yogacharas say: The realm of phenomena cannot be said to be defiled or not defiled, because there is temporary defilement. Like the water element, gold and the sky are pure, it is considered pure. They say that, for example, a turbid water element becomes pure when it encounters medicine, impure gold becomes pure through smelting and other methods, and the sky becomes pure when it is separated from impurities such as smoke, dust, haze, clouds, etc. In the same way, the realm of phenomena is also naturally pure, and becomes defiled by temporary afflictions, and becomes purified when it is separated from afflictions. In order to explain this reason, they say: If it were not defiled, all sentient beings would be liberated. If it were not completely pure, effort would be fruitless. It means that if the realm of phenomena is not defiled by temporary afflictions
