Therefore, because the sphere of activity of the mind is reversed. Unborn and unceasing, the nature of reality is the same as nirvana. It is said that proliferation ceases with emptiness, and that also ceases with the reversal of what is to be said. That reversal of what is to be said is also because the sphere of activity of the mind is reversed. That reversal of the sphere of activity of the mind is also because it is reversed by realizing that the nature of reality, which is unborn and unceasing, is the same as nirvana. Therefore, in this way, the principle of establishing the meaning of what is completely imputed as being without inherent existence is shown according to the manner of the Great Vehicle Madhyamikas. If it is said that the characteristic of what is completely imputed does not exist, then it is said that the Yogacharas say that the characteristic of what is completely imputed does not exist, because it is inverted. For example, it is like mistaking a tree stump for a person. These are their words. They also connect the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma of establishment, and the example in order. For example, just as mistaking a tree stump for a person is non-existent because it is inverted, so too, the characteristic of what is completely imputed is also inverted. Therefore, it is non-existent, so the nature of what is completely imputed is without inherent existence by characteristic. In response to that, by the commentator himself, the meaning of the reason is not established, because name belongs to form and formations, and the discriminations of nature, conception, and recollection also belong to consciousness and the aggregate of formations. Therefore, it is said that the Yogacharas' tenet that the characteristic of what is completely imputed does not exist, because it is inverted, is not established. Why? Because what is completely imputed is the nature of all dharmas, and especially the imputation of names, and the superimposition by discrimination. Therefore, since name is not expressed by sound, it also belongs to the aggregate of form and is a formation that is not associated with mind, so it also belongs to the aggregate of formations. Therefore, it is not inverted like mistaking a tree stump for a person, so it is not non-existent. Discrimination is also of three types, namely, the discrimination of nature is the five sense consciousnesses.

It arises from abiding. The aspects of conceptualization are, respectively, the consciousness seeking and the mental activity of volition. The aspects of recollection are, respectively, the ascertainment of consciousness and the mindfulness of mental factors, therefore these are also included in consciousness and the aggregate of volition. Like mistaking a tree stump for a person, it is not non-existent because it is not inverted. Therefore, as the Yogācāras wish, in conventional truth, self-nature is also not without self-nature by virtue of being without self-nature, but in conventional truth, the self-nature of form, mind, and mental factors exists like illusion, mirage, and dream. Furthermore, the application of conventional expression is the object of the self-nature and difference of the meaning to be expressed. But in ultimate truth, because the self-nature and difference of the meaning to be expressed are negated, it is not appropriate to be attached to afflictions. Just as a prostitute realizes the selflessness of a young girl transformed into form, it is not reasonable to be attached to meaning by the power of name, because it arises from inappropriate attention. The Yogācāras say: The self-nature of the completely imputed, although it does not exist in that way, from the application of name and meaning, all afflictions arise. Just as the application of name and meaning, children become attached to its self-nature. Therefore, through the name of the completely imputed, by way of applying to meaning by other-power, thereby clinging to meaning and becoming completely afflicted. This statement is shown to be unreasonable. How is it unreasonable? The application of name and meaning is the application of conventional expression. It is the object of the self-nature and difference of the meaning to be expressed. But in ultimate truth, because the self-nature and difference of the meaning to be expressed are negated, just as when a prostitute realizes that the young girl in the image does not have the self-nature of a woman, she does not generate desire and other afflictions towards her. Therefore, in ultimate truth, from the application of name and meaning, one does not cling to meaning, nor does one become completely afflicted. But in conventional truth, from the application of name and meaning.
