It is said that if it is not a thing because it lacks body, senses, and wisdom, and it is a thing because bliss is permanent without repetition. This is what the logicians say, that Nirvana, relying on the two things mentioned above, is the nature of both thing and non-thing. As a response to that statement, the commentator says that it is not good, because merely by preventing the arising of body etc., those non-existences are prevented, and the permanence of bliss without repetition is also prevented merely by preventing the arising of conditioned phenomena, and there is no inference that shows bliss to be unconditioned, so that is not reasonable. It is said that because the arising is truly prevented, the first two reliances cannot be established, and because you do not have the inference that shows bliss to be unconditioned, that is also unreasonable. The remainder is the same as before, which is to say that in order to prevent Nirvana from being the nature of both thing and non-thing, the remaining reasons are connected in the same way as the two faults shown in the previous refutation of considering it a thing and the refutation of considering it a non-thing. That is, connect it like this: Nirvana is not a thing, it will become the nature of aging and death. A thing without aging and death does not exist. If Nirvana is a thing, Nirvana will become a conditioned phenomenon. A thing that is not a conditioned phenomenon never exists. If Nirvana is a thing, how is Nirvana not dependent? A thing that is not dependent never exists. In the way it is said, the liberation of the logicians, called the aggregation of the world, is the nature of the field of accomplishment, if the meaning of the life-word is definitely established, then if it is a thing, it will become the nature of aging and death, and it will become a conditioned phenomenon and something to be established dependently. If Nirvana is not a thing, how can it be a non-thing? For whom Nirvana is a thing, for him a non-thing does not exist. If Nirvana is not a thing, how is Nirvana not dependent? For whom it is not dependent, a non-thing does not exist. In the way it is said,

Those who are reasonable say that liberation, called the gathering of the world, is the nature of the accomplished realm, the cessation of the suffering of samsara. If it is non-existent, then it should not have the nature of true virtue and the pacification of afflictions. Moreover, non-existence is unreasonable, and it should become dependent and established. Now, in order to show that if the Nirvana of the reasonable ones is the nature of both existent and non-existent, then it should become dependent and established. Also, others: If Nirvana is, both existent and non-existent, then Nirvana is not independent. What is it? It should become dependent. As follows: Because it depends on two. Because it depends on the nature of both existent and non-existent. Nirvana is not desired to depend on two. Because it is difficult to show that it has such an appearance, it is said. Now, in order to show that if the Nirvana of the reasonable ones is the nature of both existent and non-existent, then it is unreasonable because of contradiction, that is, because the nature of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena is inconsistent. Also, others: If Nirvana is, both existent and non-existent, then Nirvana is unconditioned, and existent and non-existent are conditioned. In this way, this can show that the Dharma of Nirvana is different from the nature of existent and non-existent. Whatever is different in nature from something, it should not be its nature, just as fire is different in nature from water, so it is not the nature of water, as it is said. Others say: Those who have existent and non-existent are Nirvana, but not the nature of existent and non-existent, because there are no two inconsistent natures on one phenomenon. This is to say that those who say that Nirvana is inherently existent say: Whatever basis has existent and non-existent, that basis is Nirvana. This is also unreasonable. In order to refute it, it is said: If Nirvana has, both existent and non-existent, then your doctrine
