Because for those things that do not depend on dependent arising, your reason of "dependent arising" cannot be established in either the similar side of form, etc., or the dissimilar side of space, etc., so it is not valid. As a response to that argument, the commentator here says: Because that has already been answered, it should not be objected to. Even if it is not universally applicable to the similar side, it can still be a valid reason, for example, "sound is impermanent, because it arises immediately after effort." Even if this does not apply to lightning and forest flowers, it can still be a valid reason for the impermanence of sound, so there is no problem, because it has already been answered, so it should not be objected to. Therefore, if someone says, "In the ultimate truth, things are only existent in their own nature, because they have the nature of arising and ceasing," then that reason has neither concomitance nor is it seen only in the dissimilar side, therefore it is contradictory in itself. This is the conclusion and the result of valid cognition. Because the reason stated by the opponent has no example in the ultimate truth, it is unestablished. In the conventional truth, it is seen only in the dissimilar side of the ultimate truth, therefore it is contradictory in itself, so the existence of things in their own nature is unestablished. Now, although it has been shown through inference that in the ultimate truth things are without self-nature, if your own schools cannot accept this and cling to the existence of things, then you will suffer such great and irreparable harm. In order to show that all the accusations previously made by the opponent against the Madhyamikas will be returned with interest, if even though it has been proven through inference, you still cannot accept the non-existence of things through the power of inference, then you will suffer such great and irreparable harm. For example: If all of this is not empty, then there will be no arising and no destruction. Then, for you, the four noble truths will become non-existent. Thus, it is said, first generally pointing out the fault of the non-existence of the four noble truths. Now, the truth of suffering does not exist.
