These are the subject, the dharma to be proven, the dharma that proves, the example, and the combination of close association, which are combined in order. For example, the women conjured by magicians, etc., are abandoned because their faults are recognized, so they are abandonable. Similarly, emptiness, because faults are attributed to afflictions and they are abandoned, is abandonable, therefore it is without inherent existence. Here, the meaning of refutation is to refute the faults of proof stated by the opponent and to show that one's own proof is without fault, thereby revealing the inversion of no inherent existence. Therefore, the statement "it is the conclusion and the result of valid cognition" means that in the twenty-third chapter, the refutation of examining inversion, considering the meaning of refutation as the result of valid cognition is to show the inversion of no inherent existence by negating the distinctions of the opposite side of emptiness. What is the benefit of showing the inversion of no inherent existence? To dispel the saying of others that "only a dry treatise has been accomplished," here also the source of credible scripture is to be established. For this reason, in the Holy Dharani of Accomplishing Limitless Doors, it says: "Just as this speech is not a form, just as there is no object of observation at all. Just as afflictions are not a form, there is never any object of observation. Just as this speech does not exist, it does not abide inside or outside. Just as afflictions do not exist, they do not abide inside or outside." These and other statements are established. The upper verses show that afflictions are not forms, and the lower verses show that afflictions are not real. Similarly, in that same scripture it also says: "Sharadvati's son, the complete understanding of all afflictions is the suchness of reality. There are no afflictions in it, beings become afflicted through inversion. What is inversion? It is that which does not exist, and that which does not exist has no accomplishment or characteristic of existence. Sharadvati's son, that

Thus, whatever is completely known is called purification, and what is said, such as that, is also established. Similarly, in other sutras, the Tathagata has manifested complete enlightenment without the existence of afflictions, and has shown it. Although not visible as a physical form, he knows all things; although he does not make duality, he manifests directly, and there is nothing to be obtained, and so on. Those things that are said are established, it is said. Thus, the establishment of those credible scriptures is the merit and source of this teaching of the nature of emptiness of perversion. Moreover, this treatise shows those things as the object to be explained in detail, which is also the wisdom of the teacher and the expertise of the interpreter. Composed by the teacher Lekdenjé, the extensive commentary on the twenty-third chapter called "Examination of Perversion" from the commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, the Lamp of Wisdom, is completed by the ascetic practice seen by the teacher Jinpa. Volume seventy-four. Now, similarly, by refuting the distinctions of the contradictory aspects of emptiness, the twenty-fourth chapter is composed because of the meaning of showing that the noble truths are without inherent existence. The word "because" here should also be regarded as the meaning of the cause of entering into the proposition, and the meaning of connecting with the text below. The meaning of the words is the same as before. Among them, in terms of the meaning of the cause of entering into the proposition, now, similarly, by refuting the distinctions of the contradictory aspects of emptiness, it is said. When the author of the treatise composed the first chapter, "Examination of Conditions," he made a proposition that all things are without arising. Therefore, here too, the author of the treatise speaks in the same way as before, in terms of the meaning of the cause of entering into the previously established proposition. Emptiness is one's own side. Its contradictory side is the side of the opponent, such as saying that things have inherent existence. The so-called "distinction" refers to the other party's assertion that things have inherent existence.
