Now, to show that it is unreasonable to abandon what does not exist. If what does not exist is like a rabbit's horn, or like the characteristic of one thing not existing in another, even then, if some people's afflictions, which things are without inherent existence, then here too, even if it is not said "some people's non-existence," it should be understood from the context, thus it is said, and it also shows that the opponent's argument is refuted. Now, to show that there is a loophole in their abandoning of afflictions, how can it be abandoned? How can it not be abandoned? Who would abandon what does not exist? Because the non-existence of what does not exist is impossible to abandon, just as the flowers in the sky do not exist, so it is impossible to abandon the nature of non-existence, and the horse's inherent existence does not exist, so it is impossible to abandon the nature of the horse's non-existence, thus it is said. If someone again thinks that the afflictions that exist can be abandoned by generating an antidote, so there is no fault, this is the opponent's thought that abandoning existing things can be achieved. To show that it is unreasonable, it is difficult to explain how an existing thing can be abandoned by generating what antidote, thus it is said, because an existing thing is unchanging in its nature. Therefore, here, regarding the distinction between whether afflictions exist or do not exist, there is a loophole in abandoning them, so it is shown that the dharma of afflictions is abandonment. This is to say that for the opponents who claim inherent existence, afflictions also become existing or non-existing things, so for such distinctions, there is a loophole in abandoning afflictions, therefore it is shown that here, in the ultimate sense of the Madhyamaka school, the dharma of afflictions being without inherent existence, the reason is abandonment. To show the analogy after that, therefore the analogy is that, ultimately, afflictions are without inherent existence because they are abandoned, just like the women, men, and sculpted young girls conjured up by a magician, recognizing the faults, abandoning them exists, thus it is said, that
