The Tathagata is the Dharmakaya of the teachings. Those who, regarding the Buddhas as transcending play, engage in play with the inexhaustible, all those who are diminished by play, will not see the Tathagata. Thus it is said. In order to indicate that same source, as it is said: Those who see me in form, those who know me by sound, that person has entered the wrong path, that person will not see me. Thus it is said, just as it has been said. Thus it is said in the Holy Diamond Cutter Sutra. That is in order to conclude with the meaning of indicating that these beings are also without self-nature, just as the Tathagata is without self-nature. Therefore, if one thoroughly examines in that way, whatever the Tathagata has spoken as an example of establishing that things exist as self-nature, what is the reality of the Tathagata? That is the self-nature of this being. The Tathagata has no reality, this being has no self-nature. Thus it is said. In order to indicate that same specific explanation, that is also, if one thoroughly examines, not the body, not other than the body, with such things as being without self-nature, because all those examined are completely without self-nature, therefore it is without self-nature, thus it is said. In order to indicate the self-nature of the completely imputed, here, the self-nature of the completely imputed is the nature of aggregates, elements, sources, characteristics, the basis of characteristics, causes, results, things, non-things, oneness, otherness, and so forth. Thus it is said. Some completely understand that the Tathagata is the self-nature of the aggregates in the ultimate sense, some are the self-nature of the elements, some are the self-nature of the sources, some are the self-nature of the characteristics, some are the self-nature of the basis of characteristics, some are the self-nature of the causes, some are the self-nature of the results, some are the self-nature of things, some are the self-nature of non-things, some are the self-nature of oneness, some are the self-nature of otherness, and so forth, those who completely understand are merely the self-nature of the completely imputed. Because there is no self-nature in the ultimate sense, therefore it is the nature of those.

It also shows that the Tathagata and these beings are also without self-nature. Therefore, in order to show that the Tathagata, who is completely regarded as the self-nature of the aggregates, is without self-nature, it is said, "If the cause of form is not understood, form will not become an object." Because in the way shown there, the aggregates are without self-nature, it is said that the Tathagata who has this self-nature is also without self-nature. When observing the aggregates, it is said in the way shown there. In order to show that the Tathagata, who is completely regarded as the element, things, non-things, the basis of self-nature, and the self-nature of self-nature, is without self-nature, it is said, "Before the self-nature of space, there is not the slightest space." and so on. There, if the six elements such as space are completely observed, they are neither things nor non-things, neither the basis of self-nature nor self-nature, so because things and so on are without self-nature, it is shown to be without self-nature. Similarly, if the Tathagata, who is regarded as the self-nature of the realm of consciousness and so on, is completely observed, it is neither a thing nor a non-thing, neither the basis of self-nature nor self-nature, so because things and non-things, the basis of self-nature and self-nature are without self-nature, it is said to be without self-nature. When observing the elements, it is said in the way shown there. In order to show that the Tathagata, who is completely regarded as the self-nature of the sense-fields (སྐྱེ་མཆེད།), is without self-nature, as when observing the sense-fields, it is shown that the sense-fields are without self-nature, and there is no seer or the like other than the sense-fields, similarly, the Tathagata who has the self-nature of the sense-fields is also without self-nature, so it is said that the Tathagata is without self-nature. When observing the sense-fields, it is said in the way shown there. In order to show that the Tathagata, who is completely regarded as the self-nature of identity and otherness, etc., is without self-nature,

In order to show, just as examining fire and firewood, by negating oneness, otherness, and unspeakability, they are without inherent existence, similarly, the Tathagata is the nature of knowledge, the nature of the collection of knowable objects and Buddha's qualities, and the Tathagatas who are aggregates, and the Tathagatas of the realm of Dharma are also without inherent existence of oneness, otherness, and unspeakability, therefore it is said that the Tathagata is without inherent existence, just like examining fire and firewood, in the manner of showing it in that way. In order to show that the Tathagata's complete examination of the inherent existence of cause and effect, etc., is without inherent existence, in the treatise on non-arising, because of negating arising, etc., and in the treatise on examining what has gone and what has not gone, because of negating what has gone and what has not gone, etc., arising, etc., is without inherent existence, therefore it is said that the Tathagata is without inherent existence, these treatises negate the actions of cause and effect, and arising and going, etc., in the manner of showing it in that way. How the Tathagata goes is also without inherent existence, therefore it shows the chapter summary of "The Tathagata has no reality, this going has no inherent existence." Therefore, because there is no similar side, the meaning of the reason is not established, and it is contradictory, which is the conclusion of the chapter. Because the outsiders establish that forms and other things are inherently existent in the ultimate sense, the example of the similar side is like the body of the Tathagata, because that is not established as inherently existent, therefore because there is no similar side, the outsiders' reason "because it is a thing" is not established in the ultimate sense, but it is contradictory in the conventional sense. Here, the meaning of the treatise is that by refuting the faults of the proof initially stated by the outsiders in the treatise, the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata is shown, which is the conclusion and the result of valid cognition, is the treatise on examining the Tathagata.
