Here, the word "is" is shown to be uncertain. For example, things that do not exist, such as rabbit horns, are knowable in the way that they do not exist, but they are not seen as being substantially existent. Therefore, just because something is knowable, does a vase become substantially existent like form? Or, just because it is knowable, is it uncertain that a vase will not be substantially existent like a rabbit's horn? Therefore, the argument of the opponents is not valid. Now, if one understands it to be substantially existent, then it will be contradicted by fame and scripture, which is also not reasonable. If the opponents think that because it is to be known, the word "that entity" is used to understand that even things that do not exist, such as rabbit horns, are substantially existent, then this will be contradicted by worldly fame and scripture, which is also not reasonable. Thus, since the vase is not proven to be substantially existent, the author composed the treatise. For example, just as the vase is not substantially existent, so too the Tathagata is not substantially existent, and the intention of the pledge is accomplished. Others say: The five aggregates are to be imputed, but they do not have inherent existence. Also, since it is an expression to be imputed to the Tathagata, one must first ascertain in one's mind what is not artificial in the nature of the Tathagata. If one then proves that the Tathagata has no inherent existence, it is not proving what is already established, because the aggregates are made, and so on. Those who assert that the dependent nature exists, the Madhyamikas previously said that in the ultimate sense, the Tathagata has no inherent existence because it is to be imputed, like a fire wheel. If one uses this reason and example to prove that the Tathagata of the imputed nature has no inherent existence, then it is proving what is already established. If one proves that the Tathagata of the dependent nature has no inherent existence, then there is no example. They say: In this way, the five aggregates are to be imputed to them as the Tathagata, but they only lack the imputed nature, not the dependent nature. Now you

The Madhyamikas hold that the Tathagata is not a fabricated self-nature, but rather the self-nature of other-dependence. Therefore, the Tathagata is not without self-nature, and this should be firmly kept in mind. If someone asserts that the fabricated, imputational self-nature of the Tathagata is without self-nature, then it is merely repeating what is already established. For us, the skandhas are made and produced by the illusion of imputation, and therefore they are considered to be without imputational self-nature. Therefore, if one asserts that the imputational self-nature of the Tathagata is without self-nature, it is merely repeating what is already established. However, if someone tries to negate things that arise from others, that is, things that arise and are born from other causes and conditions and attain their own being, then there is no example for that. Because all things possess self-nature that arises from others, for example, we consider fire wheels and other forms, as well as eye consciousness and other non-conceptual objects, to be inherently self-natured. Therefore, if someone asserts that the other-dependent self-nature of the Tathagata is without self-nature, then it is demonstrating a point without an example. They would say: If your reason and example negate the other-dependent self-nature, that is, things that arise from others, the Tathagata who arises and is born from other causes and conditions and attains his own being, then your example is like a fire wheel, which is not established. Because all things have the nature of arising from other conditions, since they do not arise from their own self-nature, even though birth itself is without self-nature, they still possess the self-nature of things that arise from other-dependence. Therefore, for example, we consider fire wheels, forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, and the consciousnesses of the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body, these non-conceptual objects, to be free from imputation, and the other-dependent self-nature exists even in the ultimate truth. Therefore, because you can be designated, you are self-natured.

There is no example, such as saying it is like a fire wheel. If one argues for what is already established, then the reasoning will be flawed, and if there is no example, then the argument will have the fault of incomplete examples, therefore the reasoning of the Madhyamikas is not established. They say that the Tathagata of the nature of other-dependence is not without self-nature in the ultimate sense. In response to this statement, the commentary here says, "That is not good," and so on. The Madhyamikas do not argue that only the Tathagata of the nature of the completely imputed is without self-nature in the ultimate sense, so there is no need to answer that this is arguing for what is already established. It is necessary to answer that there is no example. The opponents believe that the Tathagata of the nature of other-dependence has self-nature in the ultimate sense, and argue that the shape of the fire wheel, etc., has self-nature. Saying that the Madhyamikas have no example is not good. Why? Here it says, "The fire wheel itself is an illusion." It means that a single torch is seen as a wheel due to rapid rotation at the top of the upright, even though there is no wheel, this is an illusion, therefore it is without self-nature, so my example is not without. To show this, it says: Because the parts of space above and below, and the nature of the wheel on the torch are empty, therefore it is considered to be the example itself. Thus, even though the parts of space and the torch do not have the nature of the wheel, the wheel is established by relying on them, therefore my example is established. For example, the fire wheel is to be established by relying on it, therefore it is without self-nature, similarly, the Tathagata is also to be established by relying on the aggregates, therefore it is without self-nature, thus the pledge is completed. Also, "to prevent the arising of the shape of the fire wheel, etc." is combined with the establishment of the example. If the opponent says: Even if there is no wheel, there is the shape of the torch, etc., therefore it is established that the nature of other-dependence has self-nature, so the Madhyamikas have no example. Then,
