Because the definition of 'not truly existent' is harmful, unbroken pots, as well as the ocean and unabandoned lotuses, and tiles and water, are generally similar in nature, so they cannot be established as truly existent. Therefore, the opponent's conceptualization is not good, thus it is shown. To show this very point, it is said, 'Whatever is broken, it harms its true existence.' This is because, the opponent thinks that when a pot is broken, the thought of a tile arises for the tile, so the tile is truly existent. However, according to the definition of the Abhidharma, when a pot is broken, the thought of a pot does not arise, so the broken pot is only conventionally existent, not truly existent, this definition is harmful, thus it is shown. Specifically, it can be applied in this way: When a pot is broken, the thought of a pot does not arise, so it is not truly existent. Similarly, when a tile is broken, the thought of a tile does not arise, so it is also not truly existent. Similarly, when many fragments of a tile are broken, the thought of a tile does not arise, so it is also not truly existent. Through this method, it can be extended to the fragments of a tile, particles, dust, minute dust, and finally the indivisible particle. When they are broken, the thought of them does not arise, so they are also not truly existent. Therefore, the opponent thinks that, apart from the broken pot, for other forms such as tiles, if the thought of them can arise, then they are truly existent. Similarly, they also think that the unbroken pot is also truly existent, but this view is harmed by the definition of the Abhidharma, so the opponent's view cannot be established. Therefore, the author of the treatise says, for example, a pot is not truly existent, similarly, the Tathagata is also not truly existent, thus the intention of establishing the thesis is accomplished. Here, if the opponent says this: When pots and tiles etc. are broken, the thought of them does not arise, so they are not truly existent, this is indeed true. However, when they are unbroken, the thought of them arises, so the unbroken ones are truly existent.

If you do not accept the view that arises from the definition of Dharmakīrti's treatises, then this would harm your commitment. In order to answer this previous argument raised by them, here, through the explanation itself, in order to clearly grasp "without that consciousness," it is also said of things that have not perished that "there is no that consciousness," and connecting with the word "also," it summarizes that for things that have perished, there is also "no that consciousness." This shows that: From the definition of Dharmakīrti's treatises, whatever excludes others by consciousness, like a pot and water, does not have that consciousness, that is conventionally existent. In order for me to clearly grasp the word "without that consciousness" here, not only do things that have perished not have that consciousness, but also things that have not perished are the same in not having that consciousness. Therefore, just as things that have perished, such as a pot, do not have that consciousness, so it is not substantially existent, things that have not perished also do not have that consciousness, so it is also not substantially existent, and this will not harm the commitment made with the view of the ultimate Dharmakīrti's treatises. Here, if the opponent says: Even if things that have perished and have not perished do not generate that consciousness, so it is not substantially existent, but for excluding others by consciousness, there is no that consciousness, and apart from that, for those that have not been excluded, that consciousness is generated, and that is substantially existent in the ultimate sense. In order to answer this previous argument raised by them, here, through the explanation itself, because the exclusion of other things, including grasping, is desired to be called the exclusion of others. This shows that, just as things that have perished and have not perished do not generate that consciousness, so they are not substantially existent, so too, for those that are excluded and not excluded by consciousness, that consciousness is not generated, so they are not substantially existent. Why is that? The Madhyamikas believe that the meaning of excluding others, just as the self-nature of things is excluded as not arising in the ultimate sense, so too, other things, including the cause of grasping of things, are excluded in the form of not arising in the ultimate sense, and this is called the exclusion of others. Therefore, for those that are excluded by consciousness, there is no that consciousness, like water, because there is no aspect that is incompatible with it, there is no thing that has not been excluded by consciousness. Just like by consciousness
