Time is the cause of arising and ceasing, following time, therefore time is truly existent, therefore it is manifest, therefore the proof is established, and the desired meaning is accomplished. The root meaning of such a statement is not established, therefore the author of the treatise says that previously, in the ultimate sense, time has no essence, therefore it is the cause of manifestation, therefore such a proof is not established, therefore in the ultimate sense, internal things are all without essence, thus the intention of the vow is established. Sixty-ninth fascicle. Now, if the opponents, according to their desires, acknowledge that things in the ultimate sense have an essence, then there will be the fault of falling into the views of permanence and annihilation. To show this fault, if one acknowledges that things exist in the ultimate sense, then there will be the fault of falling into the views of permanence and annihilation. Why? Because such a thing is permanent and impermanent. Among them, the permanent is permanent because it does not perish, and the impermanent is impermanent because it perishes, and there will be the fault of falling into annihilation. Thus it is said that things are of the nature of permanence and impermanence, so if one acknowledges them, then through the views of perishing and not perishing, there will be the fault of falling into the views of permanence and annihilation. Here it is said: Although things are acknowledged to exist, they do not fall into annihilation, nor do they become permanent. Why? Like this: The continuity of the arising and ceasing of the cause of the effect is existence. Among them, because the effect arises when the cause ceases, it does not fall into annihilation; because the effect arises, the cause ceases, so it does not become permanent. Thus, the opponents say that although things are acknowledged to exist, they do not fall into the views of permanence and annihilation. If there is a view of things, then existence is reasonable, like this, the cause of the arising of the effect and the destruction of the cause, that is existence. Among them, because of what the cause is destroyed, it does not fall into the fault of permanence; because of what the effect arises when the cause ceases, it does not fall into the fault of annihilation. Such is the word. The reply to that saying is made by the commentator. Here it is said: If
