Furthermore, if destruction does not arise, how could it exist? The meaning of the phrase "existence itself does not exist" is that this is a closely placed vow. By saying this, it is shown that the first aspect of the vow, which denies that destruction does not arise and exists, is closely placed. In order to show its proof, just as death does not have birth, similarly, destruction does not arise and is not without it. Because that is its cause. Thus it is understood. Just as death does not exist without birth, destruction also does not arise without it, because the cause of death and destruction is birth and arising, so the author of the sutra understands. Here, in order to clarify the meaning of the words, because other words are needed, the two words "just as" and "similarly" are spoken, drawn from the heart and shown. Just as death does not have birth, destruction also does not arise without it. The root of these two verses, in order to clarify the meaning of the words, because other words are needed, the two words "just as" and "similarly" are drawn from the explanation, and what is shown should be observed. This reason is also very famous, so there is no need to mention reasoning here. Just as death does not exist without birth, similarly, the reason why destruction does not arise and does not exist is very famous to the whole world, so there is no need to mention reasoning here. Although it is very famous, it should also be guided by examples. If someone argues wrongly, then say to him: Destruction is not without arising, because that is its cause, for example, death is not without birth. The examples of such arguments are also the nature of destruction, so for all things that arise, the impermanence of destruction is never absent, so arising does not exist without destruction. Other schools say that anything that encounters the cause of destruction will be destroyed by impermanence, so impermanence does not exist at all times. By saying this, the Sravaka school specifically

The Sautrāntikas and others assert that destruction has a cause. They say, for example, a person uses an ax as the cause of cutting, thereby felling trees, so it is not that the person is the cutter at all times, but the cause of cutting exists elsewhere. Similarly, the cause of destruction meets with a hammer, and impermanence causes the pot to be destroyed. Therefore, it is not that impermanence exists at all times, but the cause of destruction exists elsewhere, so it is possible for arising phenomena to exist without destruction. To refute their doctrine, the commentator says: If that were the case, it would be like meeting with haritaki and washing the body. If destruction has a cause, then impermanence causes it to be destroyed, and if that is the case, the cause of destruction causes it to be destroyed, not impermanence, because even if it exists, it will not cause it to be destroyed. If, like that, the cause other than destruction exists elsewhere, and meeting with it, impermanence causes it to be destroyed, then some would say that just as the cause of washing, haritaki, exists elsewhere, and meeting with it, thereby washing the body, that is not permissible. If that were the case, the cause of destruction causes it to be destroyed, not impermanence. The arising phenomena, before meeting with the cause of destruction, would also have the fault of not being destroyed by their own nature, which is not desirable. To this, one can also ask: Does something with the nature of destruction rely on the cause of destruction and be destroyed? Or does something without the nature of destruction rely on the cause of destruction and be destroyed? Through this, for the Śrāvakabhūmi Vaibhāṣikas and others, if it is necessary to examine both, it shows that neither is reasonable. To show that the first examination is unreasonable, to this, if it is something with the nature of destruction, then its destruction will occur immediately, because it is its nature, just like one's own nature, which is not reasonable. These are the subject, the proposition to be established, the means of establishing, the example, and the conclusion.
