You also without degeneration. What I have said is also established, showing that it is not established but established. To show that very point, it is said: Whatever is the collection of causes and conditions, if it does not produce itself, how can it produce fruits? To show the reason for that very point, it does not produce fruit because it is not substantially existent. Thinking thus, he said. For example, armies, forests, and chariots are merely imputed to the aggregation of the parts of the collection, but because they are not substantially existent, they do not produce themselves, so they do not produce other fruits. Similarly, the so-called collection of causes and conditions is merely imputed to the aggregation of the parts of the collection, but because it is not substantially existent, it does not produce itself, so it does not produce other fruits. Regarding this refutation of collection, some say: Collection is not one, likewise there is no object at all, if that is also different from that, that also exists alone in some way. It is like what is said. This is what the teacher said in verse: Whatever is the collection of causes and conditions, if it does not produce itself, how can it produce fruits? When explaining this passage, the commentator Sthavira Buddhapālita says that the collection of causes and conditions produces fruit, if that is examined, then first it does not produce its own nature. Why? Because it is known that the collection is not singular. The teacher Āryadeva also said: Collection is not one, likewise there is no object at all, if that is also different from that, that also exists alone in some way. It is like what is said. Some say that it cannot be relied upon because it does not agree with the meaning of the verse. The commentator himself says that the verses composed by Āryadeva are good, but they are not the source for this occasion.

It is not correct to consider Aryadeva Bodhipāramitā's citation as valid. For here, the meaning of the verse spoken by the teacher is that since causes and conditions do not produce their own nature, they will not produce their results either. And the meaning of the citation is to show that there is no such thing as 'collection' apart from causes and conditions, so it is not valid to cite it because it does not agree with the meaning of the verse. Or, the notion that the collection itself produces the result can also be applied in the same way as before and refuted like the cause. That is, for those opponents who think that the collection of causes and conditions produces the result, the way to refute it is: or, as before, when refuting the cause, using the reasons and examples that it is not reasonable to produce the result because the cause and the result are the same, different, the result exists, does not exist, and so on, similarly, here too, as before, the collection and the result are the same, different, the result exists and does not exist, and so on, using the reasons and examples that it is not reasonable to produce the result, refute it like the cause. Or, if the collection is the collection of the causes and conditions of those that have become the result, then that result has already been shown in the ultimate sense to be without the nature of the result, either directly or indirectly, therefore, the question of 'what is the collection of what?' also shows another line of reasoning that the collection is unreasonable. In this way, the so-called collection is inferred to exist as the collection of the causes and conditions of those results through the production of the result, and if (the collection) is the collection of the causes and conditions of those that have become the result, then that result has not actually been produced, therefore, how can it be without the nature of the result, either directly or indirectly, as has already been shown, therefore, if there is no (thing) that has become the result, then what is the collection of the causes and conditions of what result? The word 'collection'
