It is said, "This is said without proper examination." If it is thought that the cause, having completely abandoned its own nature, must necessarily abide in the nature of the effect, then because the cause has completely abandoned its own nature, it is not a cause. Therefore, you say that the cause itself ceases and abides in the nature of the effect, which is said without proper examination. Therefore, it should not be said that the cause itself ceases and completely transforms into and abides in the nature of the effect. Chapter Sixty-Six. Furthermore, those who say that the effect exists beforehand, does the cause cease and the produced effect arise, or does the abiding cause produce it? If one imagines this, neither is reasonable. The statement "unreasonable" refers to the Samkhyas who say that the effect pre-exists in the cause in a potential manner, and the cause produces the effect. Does the cause cease and the pre-existing effect arise, or does the cause not cease and the abiding cause produce the pre-existing effect? If one imagines this, neither is reasonable, and here two examinations are shown. To show that the first examination is unreasonable, how is it? It is said, "How does the perished, destroyed cause produce the effect?" The cause ceases and becomes destroyed, how does it produce the pre-existing effect? This shows that it does not produce it. To explain this in more detail, it is said, "Because cessation is not a cause, and the produced does not need to be produced again, the cause does not produce the produced effect, which is the meaning of this statement." The cause ceases and becomes destroyed, because it is not a cause, it cannot produce the effect. Moreover, the pre-existing effect has already been produced, so it does not need to be produced again. Therefore, the cause does not produce the produced effect, which is the meaning of this statement. The phrase "some of the Samkhyas say" refers to those of the Samkhyas who speak of transformation. The Madhyamikas point out that cessation is not a cause, and the produced does not need to be produced again, so the cause does not produce the produced effect. This is to show the answer to this view. Here, for other dharmas where the substance is definitely present,

The statement, "Because the arising of other dharmas upon reversal is a complete transformation, therefore, it is also not the case that the cause ceases and the effect arises," is a response to the Madhyamikas who say, "Because cessation is not the cause itself, the cessation of the cause does not produce the arising of the effect." They say: In our school, for example, when the substance of gold, whose inherent nature is definitely established, such as bracelets and armlets, is reversed, other dharmas such as earrings and rings arise. The nature is constant, but the state is completely transformed. Similarly, the nature of the cause, whose inherent nature is definitely established, does not appear as the essence of the effect. When it is reversed, other dharmas that previously existed in the form of potentiality arise. The nature is definitely established, but the state is completely transformed in the form of appearance and non-appearance. Therefore, the cause ceases and disappears in all ways, and it does not produce the arising of the effect. Rather, the substance of the cause, whose inherent nature is definitely established, produces the appearance and non-appearance of the effect's dharma. The statement, "Because it exists in the form of potentiality, it is not necessary to produce the unarisen special manifestation," is also a response to the previous Madhyamikas who said, "It is not necessary to produce the unarisen, so the cessation of the cause does not produce the arisen effect." They say: In our school, because the effect previously exists in the form of potentiality in the cause, the special manifestation has not arisen. Because the effect previously exists in the form of potentiality, and the arisen is not the nature of manifestation, it is necessary to produce the unarisen. Therefore, it is not necessary to produce the arisen effect. In response to their saying this, the commentator himself explains here: Even so, that whose substance is definitely established will also be reversed at the time of the reversal of other dharmas, because it is not different from it. For example, like the reversal of other dharmas, and so on. Thus, if, according to the tenets of the Samkhya school, the nature of the cause and gold is definitely established, and the dharmas of the effect and bracelets, etc., are transformed into appearance and non-appearance, then, because the nature of the cause and effect is one, the effect is reversed and
