Wanting to overcome extreme views, it is held that the fruit exists previously in the form of potential, and then, by the power of conditions, arises as a manifest nature. If, according to those ways, from the collection of causes itself, the fruit arises from existing previously in the form of potential, then, now, in order to show that this is unreasonable, it is said, "If the collection can be apprehended, because it exists, like arising." Like this, if the collection of causes itself, the fruit exists previously in the form of potential, because it exists, for example, like arising as a manifest nature, the potential of the fruit in the collection of causes itself is something that can be apprehended. In order to show that this is also non-existent, it is said, "The collection itself is not apprehended, even by mental inference." The potential of the fruit in the collection of causes itself, even if examined by mental inference, is not apprehended, therefore it does not exist, thus it is shown. Like this, this shows that from the collection itself, the dharma of the fruit is something that cannot be apprehended. Like this, this last verse root, the author of the sutra shows that, in order to establish that the potential of the fruit does not exist previously in the collection of causes itself, the reason for establishing the dharma is non-apprehension itself. In order to show the measure of that itself, therefore, the subsequent inference is that the collection of seeds, etc., itself, the fruit called sprout, etc., does not exist, it should be considered in this way. Because it is not apprehended on that. For what is not apprehended on what, that does not exist on that, like cloth not being on a vase. The sprout is also the same on the collection itself, therefore, the collection of seeds, etc., itself, the fruit called sprout, etc., does not exist, it should be considered in this way. Those are the subject, and the dharma to be established, and the dharma of establishment, and the example of dissimilar dharma, and the near combination, and the conclusion, combined in order. For example, the vase on which what cloth is not apprehended, that cloth does not exist on that vase, similarly, the collection itself on which what sprout is not apprehended, that sprout also does not exist on that collection itself, therefore, from the collection of causes of seeds, etc., itself, the fruit sprout

It should be understood that the abilities of sprouts, etc., do not exist beforehand. Here, some Samkhyas refute, saying that if there are obstacles to perception such as being too far, too near, impaired senses, unsettled mind, minute parts, being obscured, being suppressed, similar, and mixed, then even if things exist, they cannot be perceived, therefore there is the fault of an uncertain reason. Here, some Samkhyas say that the Madhyamikas' argument that the fruit, sprout, etc., does not exist in the collection of seeds, etc., and therefore cannot be perceived, is an uncertain reason. This is a refuting statement. In this regard, the Samkhyas' doctrine of the sixty branches states that even if things exist, there are eight reasons why they cannot be observed. That is: Because of being too far, because of being too near, because of impaired senses, because of being without mind, because of minute parts, because of being obscured, because of being suppressed, and because of being mixed. Thus it is said. Among these, because of being too far, it cannot be observed, for example, a bird flying from this village to another village, although it cannot be observed, it does not mean it does not exist, but because it is too far, it cannot be observed. If it is not too far, then why cannot it be observed? It is said, "Because of being near," for example, there is eye medicine in Indra's eye, it cannot be observed,

For example, dust and gnats flying in the sky, although invisible, are not non-existent, but are invisible because they are too subtle. If it is not because of subtlety that they are invisible, then what is the reason? It is said, "Because of obscuration." For example, pots and the like obscured by earthen walls and walls, although invisible, are not non-existent, but are invisible because they are obscured. If they are not obscured, then what is the reason for their invisibility? It is said, "Because of suppression." For example, the light of the sun suppresses the light of planets, stars, and constellations, although invisible, they are not non-existent, but are invisible because they are suppressed. If they are not suppressed, then what is the reason for their invisibility? It is said, "Because of mixing." For example, pigeons and lentils, and many similar things mixed together, although invisible, are not non-existent, but are invisible because similar things are mixed together. Thus, here, although things exist, they are invisible due to eight reasons. Since we see things that cannot be grasped, should we, just because they cannot be grasped, assume that there are no fruits such as sprouts in the collection of seeds, just as cloth is not in a pot? Or, because they cannot be grasped, should we assume that there are fruits such as sprouts in the collection of seeds, just as in the case of things that are very far away? Since it is uncertain, the argument of the Madhyamikas has the fault of being uncertain. Some others besides the Samkhyas raise other objections, saying, "The argument of the Madhyamikas, 'because it cannot be grasped,'" is uncertain and unestablished. Therefore, they say, what is the meaning of the argument of the Madhyamikas, "because it cannot be grasped"? If it is said, "because it cannot be grasped by direct perception," then it is uncertain, because the essences of the senses, although they cannot be grasped by direct perception, exist. Here, among the twenty-five tattvas, the essence of the intellect and senses cannot be grasped by direct perception.
