Not placing nearby. (Below) From the perspective of ultimate truth, conditioned aggregates, elements, and sense bases should only be held to possess the nature of conditioned things, because they possess characteristics of conditioned things such as arising, etc. These are things that will appear. "By refuting that" means that from the aspect of refuting that (the nature of conditioned things), the seventh chapter is to be composed. To be combined with the text below, from the aspect of meaning, it is said, "To show that aggregates, etc., are without self-nature, the seventh chapter is to be composed." The seventh chapter examines arising, abiding, and ceasing. The meaning of the text below this chapter is that, in order to show that aggregates, etc., are without self-nature, that is why those words were spoken. So, what is the result of this chapter? In what way is this result obtained? Showing that aggregates, etc., are without self-nature is the result of this chapter. This result is obtained by refuting the distinctions of the opposite side of emptiness. Therefore, the commentator, in this context of connecting the chapter, only shows the means and the initial result arising from the means. In order to show what was said, "the distinctions of the opposite side of emptiness," therefore, it is said, "What is said here," etc. Even if aggregates, elements, and sense bases, etc., are refuted in this way, the self-affirming schools that are attached to them cannot tolerate it, so they say these words again. Therefore, from the perspective of ultimate truth, conditioned aggregates, elements, and sense bases should only be held to possess the nature of conditioned things, because they possess characteristics of conditioned things such as arising, etc. These are the subject, the property to be established, the reason, and the example, in order. Here, for something that does not exist, it is not held to possess the characteristics of conditioned things, such as a rabbit's horn, which is an example of the opposite side of the subject. Aggregates, etc., possess the characteristics of conditioned things such as arising, etc.

The saying "having" is the usage of taking closely. Therefore, as previously stated, the intellectual activities generated by the power of reason, that is to say, only the nature of aggregation exists in aggregated skandhas and so on, this is the conclusion and the result of valid cognition. Here, for those things that are not considered to have the characteristics of aggregation, such as rabbit horns, they are not truly self-existent in the ultimate sense, while for those things that are pointed out to have the characteristics of aggregation, such as skandhas, realms, and sources, they truly have the nature of aggregation in the ultimate sense. Therefore, as previously stated, the intellectual activities generated by the power of reason, we, the Vaibhashikas and the Sautrantikas, say that only the nature of aggregation exists in aggregated skandhas and so on. That's what they say. In order to answer what they said, the commentator explains here: For you who consider birth and so on to be the characteristics of aggregation, are these births and so on themselves aggregated or unaggregated? and so on. For these three Abhidharma Pitakas, the Vaibhashikas and the Sautrantikas, do you think that the characteristics of aggregation, such as birth, abiding, and cessation, are themselves the nature of aggregation and will become the characteristics of other aggregations? Or are they themselves the nature of unaggregation and will become the characteristics of other aggregations? This is being investigated. If they say that these are aggregated, then, for the time being, let's explain it by taking birth as an example. That is to say, if the characteristics of aggregation such as birth are aggregated, then, among the three, birth, abiding, and cessation, if birth is temporarily aggregated, then it cannot be a characteristic of aggregation, because it has no characteristics. Because the other party's reason is that birth and so on have the characteristics of aggregation, it is not established. In order to show that in the ultimate sense, aggregated skandhas, realms, and sources do not have the nature of aggregation, that's why it is said. The words.
