It is refuted. It is not appropriate to arise simultaneously. And so on, preventing it. Simultaneity is also not accepted because of dependence. One and simultaneous do not exist, it and it are not simultaneous. Because it is one, simultaneity is prevented. Moreover, in order for you to thoroughly establish it, you promise to be distinct. Because distinctness is not established, therefore, do you seek simultaneity in order to establish simultaneity? In order to thoroughly establish simultaneity, do you also seek distinctness? And so on, because there is no need for greed and attachment to be distinct, therefore it is not established, therefore in order to thoroughly establish it, you seek simultaneity, and also in simultaneity, because the fault of producing one arises, it is not established, therefore in order to thoroughly establish it, you also seek distinctness, you are like a poor garment threatened by a great wind, shrinking unbearably, yet stretching out. When distinct things are not established, simultaneous things will not be established. At that time, O Possessor of Life, for which distinct thing do you seek to be a simultaneous thing? Speak more about it. Like this, if you think there are distinct things, then the simultaneous things of those two also exist, then those distinct things will not be established in any way. If there are no distinct things, how can your simultaneous things exist? Then, if there is which distinct thing, thinking that greed and attachment are simultaneous things, speak more about it, this is the conclusion. In order to show that, for the distinctness that arises in sequence, or for the distinctness that arises simultaneously, do you seek to be a simultaneous thing? To this, if it is said that it is for the distinctness that arises in sequence, that is unreasonable. Because that is distinct, for example, like greed and non-greed, it has been shown before. Or if it is said that it is for the distinctness that arises simultaneously, that is also because of dependence, for example, like cause and effect, it has been shown before, so it is said. Because in that way greed and attachment are simultaneous

Therefore, since I am not established as co-emergent, a conclusion should be made: Thus, desire and attachment, co-emergent, non-co-emergent do not arise. Combining the previously shown analysis to make a conclusion, it is said: If desire is prior, if there is attachment without desire, relying on that there is desire, with attachment there will be desire. And so on, with those analyses previously shown, thus desire is not established as co-emergent with attachment or without attachment. Therefore, the investigation of desire and attachment should be concluded. In order to show similarly that all phenomena are also determined to be not established as co-emergent and non-co-emergent in the manner shown. Like desire, all phenomena, co-emergent, non-co-emergent do not arise. Like desire, hatred and ignorance, etc., all external and internal phenomena are also not established as co-emergent and non-co-emergent. That is to say, just as desire is not established as co-emergent with attachment or without attachment, so too hatred and ignorance, etc., all external and internal phenomena are also not established as co-emergent or non-co-emergent with certain phenomena. Therefore, since desire, etc., are not established in ultimate reality, the reason stated by the opponent for initially showing afflictions and faults based on them is not established. If the reason is stated in conventional reality, then it is contradictory in meaning. That is to say, the reason stated by the opponent for establishing the existence of aggregates, elements, and sources in ultimate reality is that the Blessed One showed afflictions and faults based on them. Thus, since desire, etc., are not established in ultimate reality, if it is established in ultimate reality, then the meaning of the reason is not established, and if it is established in conventional reality, then it is contradictory in meaning. Here, the meaning of the debate is that by pointing out the faults of the reason stated by the opponent, it is shown that desire and attachment, etc., do not exist in their own nature. This is the conclusion.
