Because attachment to unreasonable things also becomes unreasonable, it is not right. Therefore, it is said that "that is undesirable." Like this, desire is the cause of generating attachment, and attachment is the object of generating attachment. If they arise simultaneously, for those things that do not depend on each other, those are unreasonable. Therefore, desire and attachment, those things that do not depend on each other, contradict all expressions, so they are unreasonable. Then, how should it be considered? Therefore, it should be considered that these two are indeed dependent. Here, inferring by virtue of the dharma of the aspect should be combined like this, that is, by virtue of having a reason that is dependent. Desire and attachment do not have things that exist simultaneously, because they are dependent, for example, seeds and sprouts. These should be combined in order as the subject and the dharma to be established, the dharma that can establish, and the example. For example, seeds and sprouts, because they are dependent, they do not have things that exist simultaneously. Similarly, desire and attachment are also because they are dependent, so they also do not have things that exist simultaneously. Here, the Vaibhashikas say: What is the meaning of the reason? Is it because it depends on arising, or because it depends on showing a special expression? Here, the Vaibhashikas fault the Madhyamikas' reason "because it is dependent" as being uncertain in meaning. They say: What is the meaning of your Madhyamikas' reason "because it is dependent"? Is it that mind and mental factors, like a lamp and light, do not have things that exist simultaneously because they depend on arising? Or is it like the two horns of a cow, because it depends on showing a special expression to say "this is the right one, this is the left one," so there are no things that exist simultaneously? Thus, two assumptions are made. If it is said that it depends on arising, then mind and the things that arise following the mind, those things that arise simultaneously, are also because the cause of simultaneous arising is the cause, and the lamp and light also arise simultaneously,

The term "uncertainty" means that if you Madhyamikas establish that there are no coexistent entities because they depend on arising, then the meaning of your reason, "because it depends on," is uncertain. For example, in the Abhidharmakosha it says, "Whatever arises together is a mutual result." This means that the cause of simultaneous arising is mutual results, and mutual means one for the other. Any dharmas that are mutual results and mutually beneficial are the causes of mutual simultaneous arising. How is that? For example, "Like aggregates following the mind, mind and characteristics and characterized." It is said like this, the four great elements are the causes of mutual simultaneous arising, and the mind is also the co-arising cause of the dharmas that follow the mind, and these are also the co-arising cause of the mind, and the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, arising, abiding, and ceasing, these three are also the co-arising cause of the basis of characteristics, and the basis of characteristics is also the co-arising cause of the characteristics, as it is said. With the co-arising cause, mind and mental factors are also interdependent, and they also have coexistent entities, so why, because of dependence, like seeds and sprouts, do desire and attachment not have coexistent entities? Or because of dependence, like mind and mental factors, it is uncertain whether desire and attachment have coexistent entities. Furthermore, lamps and light are also interdependent, and they also have coexistent entities, so why, because of dependence, like seeds and sprouts, do desire and attachment not have coexistent entities? Or because of dependence, like lamps and light, it is also uncertain whether desire and attachment have coexistent entities. If it is said that it is because it depends on the special expression of the support, then the two horns of a cow that arise simultaneously are also like this.
