Then, those are also the five views to be abandoned by seeing suffering, and the two views to be abandoned by seeing the origin, and the two doubts to be abandoned by seeing suffering and origin, and one unmixed ignorance, and one equally existing ignorance, these eleven subtle increases are called the cause of pervasiveness, because they are focused on their own realm. As it is said, here, attachment, because it exists later with desire, is the cause of pervasiveness for the later arising of desire, if you say that if it is attachment, then it becomes meaningless for desire to arise to it, that is not desired, we do not have the fault of saying that. Thus it is shown that, for the cause of all individual beings, desire and so on exist in a latent manner, without being able to grasp their own nature, therefore all individual beings are attached with desire. When desire and so on exist in a latent manner, when those find the conditions and become clear, then it is called the arising of desire, as it is said in the Abhidharmakosa: "Not abandoning latency, and the object is near, not proper attention, the cause of affliction is complete." As it is said, therefore, attachment itself is the cause of desire, if you say that if you think that there is attachment without desire, because it is already attached, it becomes meaningless for desire to arise to it, we do not have the fault of saying that. As it is said. In response to that saying, here by the explanation itself, it is said: "Even if attachment exists, how can desire exist?" As it is said, even if your attachment exists, how can it become the existence of desire? Thus, for attachment, there is nothing that is the action of desire. If it does not attach, how can it become desire? If it becomes, then anything that is not desire itself will not become, that is not desired, therefore attachment itself should not become the cause of desire. In order to show that itself, thus when desire arises to the unattached, it depends on the condition called attachment, with what does that desire attach

It is said, "Because merely calling something 'attachment,' it is meaningless to generate desire for something that has already become attached." Furthermore, the way it is known in the world is that something unattached encounters desire and relies on the condition of the term called attachment, but not the pre-existing attachment. Then, by what universally present desire does it become attached? For something that has already become attached, generating desire again becomes meaningless. For example, just as desire does not arise for anything other than that, therefore, attachment itself is not the cause of desire. Here, if the opponent says, "Then, although attachment is not the cause of desire, it should be considered as the higher attachment itself," to answer the question raised from the previous side, the commentator says, "Because there is no inference to prove it." It means that before there is no desire, saying "there is attachment" is merely empty words, because there is no inference to prove its existence, so there was no attachment before. "How could it be?" This is impossible, even if there is attachment, how could there be desire? The author means that even if attachment itself exists according to the opponent's idea, how could it be the cause of desire? It will not be the cause. Or, the attachment of Devadatta is the direct cause of whatever desire arises in the continuum of Devadatta, because it is attachment, just like the attachment of offering sacrifices. That is to say, this reason can also be proven by valid cognition, corresponding them in order as the subject, the thing to be proven, the proving property, and the example. For example, the attachment of offering sacrifices, because it is attachment, is the direct cause of whatever desire arises in the continuum of Devadatta, similarly, the attachment of Devadatta is also the direct cause of whatever desire arises in the continuum of Devadatta because it is attachment. If it is said that this is impossible, because if attachment is taken as the cause of desire that is of a different continuum and of the same continuum, then it is proving what is already established and is self-contradictory.
