Because of adhering to the special commitment that "seeing with the eye," it does not abandon the worldly saying that the eye sees forms, and when previously showing non-arising, it was answered that if there is arising in conventional truth, then there is no arising in ultimate truth, therefore here it also shows that the eye sees forms in conventional truth, but does not see in ultimate truth, so there is no fault of becoming a harm to reputation. Some say that the eye sees, because it is the agent of the act of seeing. Here, the Vaibhashika master of Kashmir says that it is not permissible for the Madhyamikas to say that the eye does not see forms, why is that? Because the eye sees forms, because it is the agent of the act of seeing. They are also the subject, the dharma to be proven, and the proving dharma, because the eye is the agent of the act of seeing, it certainly sees forms. In response to their saying that, here the commentator says, some say that is not reasonable, etc. Some say, the commentator says, that what the Kashmiris said is not reasonable. Why is that? Because it is one part of the meaning of the commitment. The Kashmiri's reason is, because it is the agent of the act of seeing, that is not established, because it is one part of the meaning of the commitment. The commitment that the eye sees forms means the act of seeing, therefore the reason for establishing that, because it is the agent of the act of seeing, saying so is one part of the meaning of the commitment, so it is not established. Furthermore, because there is no concomitance, it is also not reasonable, because there is no example for that aspect of the Kashmiri's inference. Furthermore, because the refutation has already been stated, it is also not reasonable, because the inferences that were just shown previously have already stated the refutation that the eye does not see forms, therefore what the Kashmiris said is not reasonable, the commentator says. Others say that what the Kashmiris said is not reasonable,

The above and so on are the words of Master Deva Sharma refuting the unreasonable views of the Kashmiris. Why is it unreasonable? Because for those who say that everything is momentary, it is unreasonable for actions to occur since everything is momentary. It is said that for those who say that everything is momentary, since all dharmas are momentary, it is unreasonable to say that the Kashmiris' argument is "the agent of the action of seeing." Because if the agent of the action of seeing with the eye is truly momentary, then it will perish as soon as it arises, so the action of seeing is unreasonable. Furthermore, for those who say that it is not momentary, it is also unreasonable for it to become something different from what it was before, so it is also unreasonable. Because for those who say that it is not momentary, since they do not believe that all dharmas are momentary, it is unreasonable to say that the Kashmiris' argument is "the agent of the action of seeing." Because if the agent of the action of seeing with the eye is not truly momentary, then it is unreasonable for the eye, which did not perform the action of seeing before, to later become the agent of the action of seeing, which is different from what it was before. Therefore, what the Kashmiris said is unreasonable, as Master Deva Sharma said in his commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, called "The Opening of the White Lotus." The Sautrāntikas say that because conditioned phenomena have no action, the eye does not see, nor does anything else. What is it then? The sutra says that eye consciousness arises in dependence on the eye and forms. To say that you do not see with the eye is merely proving what is already established. The Sautrāntikas say that the body and other conditioned phenomena have no action, no movement, and no behavior, so the eye does not see form, nor does the inner purusha or other entities of the self see form. What is it then? The sutra says that eye consciousness arises in dependence on the eye and forms. Therefore, our scriptures say that eye consciousness arises in dependence on the eye, forms, and other conditions.
