Now, a refutation is made. Those (people) say this: In the ultimate truth, the Madhyamikas say that the eye sense faculty does not actually see forms, because it does not see its own nature, just like the ear and so on. The reason for saying this is: it does not see its own nature. Saying "it does not see its own nature" is acceptable, like this, the Bhagavan also said: "Form has three aspects: visible and obstructive, invisible and non-obstructive, and invisible and obstructive. Among them, the visible and obstructive is the form aggregate. The invisible and non-obstructive is non-manifest form. The invisible and obstructive are the five sense faculties, such as the eye." Having said this, the eye does not see its own nature, because it is invisible, so it is acceptable, but, in the ultimate truth, you say that form is not the object of the eye sense faculty, because it is accumulated, just like the nature of the eye sense faculty. By saying this, you establish that the eye sense faculty does not see forms. That is not acceptable, the form aggregate was previously visible and obstructive, therefore, it is visible. While saying this, you establish that it is invisible, this will become contradictory to your own commitment. In response to this statement, the commentator here says, regarding that, other reasons, because the reason and example we stated are for establishment, so there is no harm. Regarding that, you say that the eye does not see its own nature, because it is invisible, so it is acceptable. Other reasons for saying this, because in the ultimate truth, we say that the eye sense faculty does not actually see forms, because it does not see its own nature, and the example of saying that in the ultimate truth, form is not the object of the eye sense faculty, because it is accumulated, just like the nature of the eye sense faculty, in order to establish, our inference will not contradict our own commitment. The Sautrantikas say, if you say that things without distinction, the eye does not see forms, then you are establishing something that is already established, because the subject property and the eye that is the same as that cannot see.
