The reason why the meaning of those "in order to abandon desire for objects" etc. is not established is because of what? Like this, you, the Madhyamika, not just once, from the beginning of the first 'Treatise on Dependent Arising', up to here, have said many times that the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas etc., are empty of the nature of skandhas and ayatanas, therefore, the nature of things such as skandhas is established as being empty, therefore, relying on the existence of things such as skandhas, those non-existent skandhas etc. are merely existent things. Because those are merely existent things, therefore "in order to abandon desire for objects" etc., and "is the object of samadhi" etc., and the reasons of "is unconditioned" etc., those meanings are not established, therefore, the meaning to be proven, "space is a thing", is established. In order to answer those words they said, the commentator says here: What I said was refuting the existence of things such as form, I did not show their non-existence, therefore, if there is no such thing as form, then what would become tasteless? Because it does not exist, the analogy is not established, therefore the desired meaning is not established. The argument of the Vaibhashikas, that analogy is also not established. Why? What I said was refuting the existence of things such as form, skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas by way of refuting non-existence, I did not show the non-existence of form etc. skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas by way of refuting existence, therefore, if there is no such thing as form, then relying on what would it become an existence of tastelessness? Because things do not exist, the non-existence of things also does not exist. Relying on the existence of things, the non-existence of things exists, because it does not exist, therefore your analogy, where there is existence, then relying on where, the non-existence of things exists, for example, like form is tasteless, that is not established, therefore your desired meaning "space is a thing" is not established. Others said: things and non-things etc.

is the only existent, because they have knowledge. Here, whatever has knowledge exists, like the nature of reality. Here, the Sutra school and the Vaibhashika school establish that things and non-things also exist by the reason that there are persons who know things and non-things. Those proofs are also applied in order as the subject, the dharma to be proven, the proving dharma, and the example of the similar side. For example, for the nature of reality, because there is the Buddha Bhagavan who knows it, the nature of reality is also the only existent. Similarly, for things and non-things, because there are yogis who know them, any things and non-things are also the only existent. They say so. In response to their saying so, here the commentator himself says: What is said here, the knowledge of things and non-things contemplated by the minds of others, if it is a thing or a non-thing, then the refutation of both of them has already been shown, so it cannot be established that they have knowledge. Saying so, if the other schools, the Sutra school and the Vaibhashika school, think that there is knowledge of things and non-things contemplated by the mind, then if it is a thing or a non-thing, then the refutation of both of them has already been shown. For that, knowledge is not a thing, because the thing of space has been refuted, as has been shown before. It is also not a non-thing, because it is not produced, and what is not produced has no destruction, so non-things are also non-existent. Thus, knowledge is not established as the nature of things or non-things, so there is no knowledge of things and non-things. Because it does not exist, things and non-things are also simply non-existent. If one imagines that there is another knowledge that does not correspond to things and non-things, then, if the other schools think that the knowledge of things and non-things is neither the nature of things nor the nature of non-things, so it is not established as existent, and they say here that the knowledge of things and non-things is a thing
