Here, the explanation itself is for the purpose of meditative absorption, and for abandoning desire for that object, which can eliminate the nature of non-entity, and so on. From here onwards, it is to prevent the Sarvastivadins' view that space is non-entity. Thus declared, the previous reasons of the Vaibhashikas for considering space as an entity, namely, for the purpose of meditative absorption, and for abandoning desire for that object, these unreasonable points are eliminated, and the view of the Sautrantikas that space is non-entity is also eliminated. However, the Sautrantikas consider space as non-entity, and through this way, other reasons for refuting them will also be shown. Therefore, in order to refute those who consider space as an entity, in order to more clearly explain the refutation, therefore it is said "that very explanation" and so on. By refuting the previous reasons of the Vaibhashikas, in order to refute the Sautrantikas' view that space is non-entity, therefore the author of the treatise wants to explain a refutation that is clearer than the previous refutation, so here it is explained "that very thing." So, what is this more clear refutation? Therefore, "Except for the cause of form, form does not become an object" has already been explained, therefore it is said "If there is no real object, whose is the non-entity?" What does "Except for the cause of form, form does not become an object" explain? Previously, when analyzing the aggregates, the first half of the verse has already explained that obstructive form is not a real object. Thus, if it is said that obstructive form is not a real object, then whose is the non-entity that you postulate as space? Because there is no inference to prove it, so this reason cannot be established, which was previously "characteristic".

If it is said that apart from its own characteristic, a real entity does not exist either. Since it has been shown that a real entity does not exist, then what does your non-real entity belong to? If this is the case, the reality of a real entity becomes non-existent, and the real entity also does not exist, then what does the non-real entity belong to? Therefore, since there is no inference to prove the non-real entity, the view of the Sutra masters that space is a non-real entity is completely untenable. Alternatively, through phrases such as "or examine elsewhere," it explains the meaning of the two verses, "If a real entity is not existent, to what does the non-real entity belong?" in other explanations. To explain the establishment of the former view, the opponent argues: It cannot be shown that space is a real entity, because you said, "Apart from its own characteristic, a real entity does not exist either." In this way, even if there is no example, or the example has been determined, only what needs to be proven and what can be established cannot be established. Therefore, the opponent argues, "Therefore, I need to prove," etc. Here, the Vaibhashikas say, "We previously said that space is a real entity, in order to abandon the desire for that object, just like form. Or, because it is the object of meditative absorption, just like consciousness, etc. Or, because it is unconditioned, just like Nirvana." Having stated these three reasons and examples, it cannot be shown that space is a real entity. Why? Because you, the Madhyamika, said, "Apart from its own characteristic, a real entity does not exist either." In this way, without pointing out an example, what needs to be proven cannot be established. Without an example, or the examples are form and consciousness, etc., and Nirvana, etc., even if they have been determined in the conventional sense, what needs to be proven, "space is a real entity," and what can be established, "in order to abandon the desire for that object," "because it is the object of meditative absorption," "because it is unconditioned," etc., cannot be established.

When they say "it will become old," although we cannot prove the reason that "space is real," however, because in treatises on reasoning, whatever argument or example is not established, and whatever is doubtful, has the characteristic of "still needing further proof," therefore, I will prove the previous proof again here. In order to show those proofs themselves, form and so on are real, because relying on them, those non-existent things are existent. Here, whatever is existent, relying on it, non-real is existent, for example, there is no taste in form. Whatever is non-existent, relying on it, non-real is non-existent, for example, a horse's horn. They said this, and applied these in order as subject, property to be established, property of proof, example of similar class, and example of dissimilar class. For example, form is real, because relying on it, there is no taste in form; while a horse's horn is non-real, relying on it, there is no absence of taste in a horse's horn. Because there is no taste in form, form is real. Similarly, for form and consciousness and so on, and Nirvana, these real things, relying on them, in form and consciousness and so on, and Nirvana, the non-existence of those things is existent, therefore, form and consciousness and so on, and Nirvana are real. Because they are real, we, the Vaibhashikas, have established the example, therefore, the reason to be proved that "space is real" is established, the reason of the argument not being established is also not so, like this, you again and again, aren't you, aggregates, elements, and sources, all say that the aggregates and so on themselves are non-existent, therefore, relying on them, those non-existent things are existent, so they are real, this is exactly the reason of the argument of us, the Vaibhashikas, in order to abandon the desire for that object, and as the object of Samadhi, and because it is unconditioned.
