That is to say, those who claim that there are places of birth, in the case where the previous view has already been established, in order to prove the reason for the existence of the places of birth, they believe that the ten colored places of birth such as the eye are included in the form aggregate. The reason why the five aggregates are arranged in a rough order and in the order of examples such as containers is because the form aggregate is easy to show, so first start thinking from form. If it is shown that form is without self-nature, then the selflessness of the remaining feelings and so on can also be established. If this is the case, if the aggregates are without self-nature, then those opponents who claim that there are places of birth, in order to prove the reason for the existence of the places of birth, say "because they are included in the aggregates", this reason is not established, so the places of birth are established as without self-nature. So, what is the reason for preventing the form aggregate? Therefore, it is said: "Apart from the cause of form, Form does not become an object." This is what is said here. The so-called "form" is "can become form", that is, can be harmed, is a synonym for obstruction. Its cause is the cause of form. What is that? That is the four great elements such as earth. That is to say, the cause of form produced from the four great elements is the form of the four great elements. The so-called "apart from those" means "if those are excluded", that is, if the causes of form are excluded. The so-called "form does not become an object" means "in the ultimate truth", that is, the form produced from the four great elements. So what is it? In order to establish nominal terms, relying on the four great elements that are the cause of form, it is established as form. For example, although the forest is not established in reality, it is established as a forest by relying on the collection of blue poplar, nimaba, bana, etc. Similarly, relying on the cause of form, it is only established as form, and form itself does not have the establishment of self-nature. In this way, this shows that the dharma, etc. that form is to be established is only an aggregation, and if the cause of the establishment of form itself is not taken, then there is no wisdom of it.

The so-called "shown" is: "If apart from the cause of form, Form will not be an object." The first half of this verse shows the emptiness of the nature of form arising from the elements, and the dharma to be established and the dharma that establishes it. Here, the dharma to be established is that which is to be established as not being substantially existent, that is, merely an aggregation of earth and so on. The dharma that establishes it is that without the cause of form, there is no object of form, that is, if one does not grasp one's own cause, there is no cognition of it. The example is by way of armies and forests and so on. This shows that in order to establish that form is not substantially existent in the ultimate sense, one must show the dharma to be established and the dharma that establishes it by means of an example that agrees with the dharma that establishes it. Armies and forests and so on, for which the dharma to be established is that they are not substantially existent, and the dharma that establishes it is that if one does not grasp one's own cause, there is no cognition of it. Here, the inference is that form is not substantially existent in the ultimate sense, because if one does not grasp one's own cause, there is no cognition of it. These should be applied in order to the subject, the dharma to be established, and the dharma that establishes it. Here, whatever does not grasp its own cause, and there is no cognition of it, is not substantially existent, like an army and so on, which is an example of the homogeneous class. Similarly, if form does not grasp its own causes and so on, there is no cognition of form, therefore it is not substantially existent, which is the proximate conjunction. For example, armies and so on, if one does not grasp one's own aggregates, elements, and sources, there is no cognition of an army, therefore it is not substantially existent, similarly, if form does not grasp its own causes and so on, there is no cognition of form, therefore it is not substantially existent. Or, there is no other reply to the conjunction, because in the ultimate sense, the cognition of form is not an object of a substantially existent thing, because it is cognition, like the cognition of a forest and so on. These should also be applied in order to the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma that establishes it, and the example. For example,
