Therefore, it will never be reasonable. Because self-nature does not change, and there is no example. This means that if things themselves have self-nature, then it shows another fault of impossibility of change. Not having self-nature cannot be shown to change either, just as the age of a barren woman's son does not change. If self-nature does not exist, then what changes? This shows another fault that if things themselves do not have self-nature, then it is impossible for them to change. Therefore, both of these extremes have great faults, so the holy ones do not completely accept them. This shows the way of abandoning the two extremes, summarizing the previous two views. Here it is said: Because you said that things without self-nature do not change, you said two negations. To show that time, through the power of the meaning of words, it is admitted that if there is self-nature, it will change. Therefore, this is harmful to your previous view, and the meaning of the argument is not established. Because if there is self-nature, it is possible to change. This is the opponent refuting with the fault of words. They say that the Madhyamikas say that things without self-nature do not change, which is harmful, and your argument "because of change" is also not established. In response, it is said here: I do not say that the self-nature of non-existent things exists, I speak of emptiness, because it is unreasonable for any dharma to have self-nature. This answers the damage to the previous view and the meaning of the argument is not established. If it is still like unreasonableness, if one distinguishes due to the power of being accustomed to discrimination, then even if there is self-nature, how can it change? Because it has already been answered, and change only occurs in the absence of self-nature emptiness. This means that even if there is self-nature, it shows that it is impossible to change. If there really is self-nature, then it will not become non-existent. Just like the previous answer.

Because it has already been established, and because change itself is related to emptiness of inherent nature. Both refutations are also conventional truths, because they are to establish that they exist only in conventional truths, not ultimate truths, so they will not harm the former view, and in conventional truths, change itself is also established, so it is not that the meaning of the reason is not established. Saying this shows the conclusion of harming the former view and establishing that the meaning of the reason is not not established. Here, the Vaibhashikas say: In the ultimate truth, the six sense bases, such as the eye, are only inherently existent, because they are the cause of existent consciousness, just like nirvana. This is the Vaibhashikas establishing that the aggregates are inherently existent with the reason "because they are the cause of existent consciousness." They also establish them in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the property to prove, and the example. For example, nirvana is only inherently existent because it is the cause of existent consciousness, similarly, the six sense bases, such as the eye, are also only inherently existent because they are the cause of existent consciousness. They say this. As an answer to them, it is said here that for this, the water of mirages, etc., is also the cause of existent consciousness, so the reason is uncertain. Because the water of mirages, etc., which are not inherently existent, are also the cause of existent consciousness. If one establishes the reason by determining it as only the cause of existent consciousness, then it is also that the meaning of the reason is not established or the meaning is contradictory. It means that if the other party says that the water of mirages, etc., are not the cause of pure consciousness, so those are not established as reasons here, the sense bases such as the eye are the cause of existent consciousness, therefore, the reason is established by determining it with the word "only," then in this way, our reason is not uncertain. If they say this, then even so, the undamaged eyes, etc., are the cause of existent consciousness, but the damaged eyes, etc., are the cause of existent consciousness.
