Now, this master shows that the reason for proving that things do not have self-nature, etc., is changeability itself. Why is it that if things are essentially self-existent, they do not want to be changeable? Therefore, he said: The nature of things, its self-nature changes, will never be reasonable. It means that just as the nature of the heat of fire will not become cold. Like this, the opposite of change is self-nature, therefore, self-nature is unchanging and permanent. Since things appear to change, therefore, they cannot be self-existent. Self-nature will not change like the nature of the heat of fire will not become cold. Therefore, this is a word of dissimilar example, just as it is impossible for permanent things to have the nature of being made. The latter half of the verse is a dissimilar word used to prove that things do not have self-nature, etc. For example, just as the dissimilar example of "sound is impermanent because it is made" is "space is permanent because it is not made." The inference mentioned here is that the self-nature of how internal things are perceived is actually non-existent because they are changeable. For example, the touch of water becomes a hot object after contacting fire, but it does not actually have the self-nature of heat. These are respectively the subject, the property to be established, the property to be established, and the example, which are combined in order. For example, the touch of water becomes a hot object after contacting fire, because it is changeable, so it does not have the true self-nature of heat. Similarly, internal things such as the eyes that grasp objects, and internal things belonging to the body, such as hardness, etc., also do not have the self-nature of grasping objects, or do not have the self-nature of hardness, etc., because they are changeable, no matter how they are perceived, their self-nature does not exist. If someone thinks like this

It is said in the ེ་ལུང་, "This tree has various elements." If someone thinks that there is no example because water also has the nature of heat, it is because their own sect says, in the ེ་ལུང་, "This tree has various elements of all the great elements." Therefore, because water also has the element of fire, the Madhyamika's example, the touch of water meeting fire becomes a hot object, but in reality, there is no hot object, which is not acceptable. This is what they mean. To answer what they said, the commentary is made here. For those who have magical powers or have gained control over their minds, whatever they bless, such as grass, chaff, dung, etc., to become jewels, gold, silver, etc., it will become so. They also acknowledge that it is the same with trees, and say, "This tree has various elements." But this is not to say that trees have the essence of other things. For example, yogis who have magical powers, or noble ones who have gained control over their minds, who have attained samadhi called "Wish-fulfilling Hand" etc., bless grass etc. to become jewels etc., although they will become so, it is not to say that they have the essence of jewels etc., but they become so through magical powers or the power of the mind. The Blessed One also acknowledged this, and said, "This tree has various elements." But this is not to say that it has the essence of fire etc., so my example is not invalid. If someone says that "various elements" means "various abilities," this is what the Samkhya school says. They say that the word "various elements" means "various abilities," therefore, because water etc. also has the essence of various abilities such as fire etc., the Madhyamika's example is not acceptable. This is what they mean. To answer what they said, the commentary is made here. Anything that has a certain ability is not necessarily its essence. Because if the hardness, wetness, heat, and movement of earth become its essence, that is not acceptable.

said. If one assumes that it is its own nature because it has the ability, then it would follow that earth and so on also have the nature of all realms, because that is not permissible, so my example is established. Chapter Fifty-Four. The expression "said by the Vaibhashikas" and so on refers to the Shravaka Vaibhashikas. It expounds the doctrine that establishes past and future entities as truly existent. Therefore, things that have changed in state and time should also be understood as existent, because they are objects of consciousness, just like the present. These are, in order, the subject, the dharma to be proven, the proving dharma, and the example. For example, the present entity is an object of consciousness, so it should be understood as existent, just as past and future entities that have changed in state and time are also objects of consciousness, so they should be understood as existent. Therefore, if the meaning of the reason "because of change" is arising and ceasing, then for others, the meaning of the reason is not established. If it is said to be change, then for oneself, the meaning of the reason is not established. Therefore, past and future entities, which have changed in state and time, are still existent. Therefore, the Madhyamikas previously said that, from the ultimate point of view, how could internal entities not have the nature of being understood? Because of change, just as the touch of water, when it meets fire, becomes a hot entity, but does not have the nature of ultimate heat. The meaning of the reason that was said, if the meaning of "because of change" is arising and ceasing, then for others, the meaning of the reason is not established. Like this, we do not accept that entities arise and cease, so it is not established for any reason. If that reason is change, then for oneself, the meaning of the reason is not established. Because you Madhyamikas do not accept that entities change, the reason is not established for oneself, they say. The response to what they say is:
