It is not unestablished. For uncompounded, unarisen things such as space, since it is not even nominally accepted that they exist like a rabbit's horn, there is no need to apply the reason "because it arises from causes and conditions" to them. Even if that reason does not pervade them, it is established that they are without inherent existence, so it is not unestablished. Even if it does not pervade all similar instances, it is still a valid reason because there is no confusion about what is to be established, just as with something that arises immediately, and because it is not simultaneously made into the subject, and because uncompounded things are not made into the subject, there is no fault. That is to say, the Madhyamika's reason, "because it arises from causes and conditions," although it does not pervade all similar instances because uncompounded things such as space do not arise from causes and conditions, it shows that the meaning of the reason is not unestablished. How so? In ultimate truth, the reason "because it arises from causes and conditions," which is used to establish that the internal sense bases are without inherent existence, even if it does not pervade uncompounded things such as space, it is still a valid reason because it establishes that the internal sense bases are without inherent existence, and there is no confusion about what is to be established. For example, the reason "because it is newly produced," which is used to establish that sound is impermanent, even if it does not pervade lightning and forest flowers, it is still a valid reason because it establishes that sound is impermanent, and there is no confusion about what is to be established, so there is no fault. Furthermore, because I have not simultaneously made the internal sense bases and the external sense bases into the subject, the reason "because it arises from causes and conditions," which I use to establish that the internal sense bases are without inherent existence in ultimate truth, even if it does not pervade all similar instances such as the external sense bases, it is still valid as a reason, so it is not unestablished, therefore there is no fault. Furthermore, because I have not made uncompounded things such as space into the subject, the reason that I use to establish that the internal sense bases are without inherent existence in ultimate truth...

The reason for saying "because it arises from earth element and conditions" is that even if it does not pervade all non-composite things such as space, it is reasonable as a reason, so there is no fault of non-establishment. Now, even if we examine the dissimilar class, because it is the opposite of this, we want to discuss inference by the power of the dharma of the similar class, so we say "explanation," etc. Here, even if we examine that the dissimilar class of no-self-nature has one self-nature, because it is the opposite of the dissimilar class, by the power of the dharma of the similar class that establishes no-self-nature, namely "the nature of being made" and "the nature of having dependence," we want to discuss the inference that all phenomena are without self-nature, so we explain half of this verse. What is the reason that corresponds to the self-nature of the dissimilar class of no-self-nature? It shows that non-artificiality and non-reliance on others are the reasons for self-nature. To show its self-nature, the verse says: Self-nature is non-artificial, It does not depend on others. Non-artificiality is because it is not made by causes and conditions. Non-reliance on others is because it does not rely on others who rely on special speech. Having said these, it shows the difference of the dissimilar class. Now, in order to show the dharma of the similar class that is the opposite of the dissimilar class, the internal phenomena are not so non-artificial and non-reliant on others, but what are they? It is said that it is the nature of being made and the nature of having dependence. This shows the self-nature of the similar class that is the opposite of the dissimilar class. This shows that the dharma of things is the nature of being made and the nature of having dependence, that is to say, when showing the dharma of the similar class, this shows that the reason for establishing that all phenomena are without self-nature is the nature of being unmade and the nature of having dependence. Therefore, inference in the ultimate sense is that the internal phenomena are without self-nature, because they are made, and because they depend on relying on special speech, like the people manifested by illusionists, etc.
