The vow that claims things are without inherent existence has the fault of contradicting one's own words, and so on. In order to establish the reasons for things themselves having inherent existence, the tenet is established that self's things, other's things, existent things, and non-existent things exist. The phrase "by refuting that" means that by taking the aspect of refuting the distinctions of the opposite side of emptiness, the fifteenth chapter is composed. In terms of the meaning connected with what follows in the text, by the aspect of showing that dependent arising is unceasing and impermanent, it is said that the fifteenth chapter is composed. The meaning of this fifteenth chapter, which examines things and non-things, is that in the Perfection of Wisdom, by explaining the meaning of what is said, "self's thing is emptiness, thing is emptiness and thing is emptiness, thing is emptiness, and non-thing is emptiness," it shows the distinction of having unceasing and impermanent dependent arising. Therefore, in that aspect, those words are spoken. What is the result of this chapter? In what way is that result obtained? Showing the distinction of having unceasing and impermanent dependent arising is the result of this chapter, and that result is obtained by the aspect of refuting the distinctions of the opposite side of emptiness. Therefore, the commentator shows only the first result, which is the means and the result arising from the means, even in this connecting section of the chapter. If the opponents say this: How can one show the distinction of having unceasing and impermanent dependent arising by refuting self's things, other's things, existent things, and non-existent things? Because self's things and other's things have the characteristic of existence, those things are unborn, therefore they are impermanent. For the unborn, there is no destruction, therefore they are unceasing. Therefore, in that way, self's things and other's things and

Because there are things, and denying the absence of things, dependent origination is established as having the characteristics of being uninterrupted and impermanent. In order to show the characteristics of the aspects that are inconsistent with emptiness, it is said, "Here it is declared," and so on. One's own school and others should thus truly understand that all phenomena in the ultimate sense have inherent existence. In order to show the encounter by relying on these, the argument of "saying so" is refuted. Even if it is shown that all phenomena are without inherent existence, some who are attached to this cannot bear it, so they again connect these with "saying so." Therefore, your vow to say that all phenomena are without inherent existence has the fault of contradicting your own words. Because this itself denies that meaning, for example, like saying "everything said is a lie." These are sequentially related to the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example. For example, the sage Bharata-sa, in order to prove that only his own words are true and that everything else said by others is false, said "everything said is a lie," which itself denies the meaning of Sa proving that his own words are true, therefore there is the fault of contradicting his own words. Because one's own words are also included in "everything said," therefore one's own words also become a lie. Similarly, your Madhyamika's words claiming that all phenomena are without inherent existence, also because "all phenomena" itself denies the meaning of "without inherent existence," therefore there is the fault of contradicting your own words. Here, if it is said, "If there is no inherent existence, then how can it be a thing? If it is a thing, then it is not without inherent existence," this is a close combination. Because "thing" and "without inherent existence" are mutually negating, therefore you saying "thing" itself denies the meaning of "without inherent existence." The vow has the fault of itself denying that meaning, this is the conclusion.
