Because of looking at the meaning of the word "thatness," the object is also called "other." Therefore, relying on the support of a certain special statement, in order to observe, just as observing one's own nature, does the meaning of the word "thatness" not apply to that? Or, relying on the support of a certain special statement, because it is an inconsistent aspect, when observing "thatness," the meaning of the word "thatness" may not necessarily apply. In order to explain the second question, if "thatness" is not the self-nature of matter, then it is re-establishing what has already been established. Because "thatness" is its self-nature, so it is said. The Madhyamaka school vows that in the ultimate truth, observation and what is observed are not other. If the meaning of the word "thatness" as spoken by our Lokayata is not the self-nature of observation and other matter, then the Madhyamaka's reason "relying on the support of a certain special statement" is re-establishing what has already been established. Why? Because the meaning of the word "thatness" as spoken by our Lokayata is the self-nature of the meaning of the word "thatness," and it is not the self-nature of observation and other matter, which is also established in our school. In order to answer what they said, here the commentary explains the answers to eliminate the uncertain reason and the re-establishment of what has already been established in order. First, in order to eliminate the uncertain reason, as explained in the previous observation, because "thatness" is rejected, there is no inconsistent aspect, therefore it is not uncertain. If "thatness" exists, then it will necessarily rely on that "that," because it will apply, so if there is an inconsistent aspect, it will also become uncertain. What exists by relying on what, that should not be other than it. As explained, because "thatness" is rejected, there is no inconsistent aspect, therefore it is not uncertain. Re-establishment of what has already been

In order to eliminate the practice itself. In the second examination, regarding the matter of "from the ultimate point of view, seeing is not other than what is to be seen," we, in order to show that "it does not have the dharma of the object of otherness's mind and sound," say to the other party, "because there is no such practice, it is also not a practice on what has already been established." We previously vowed that "from the ultimate point of view, seeing is not other than what is to be seen," the meaning of that vow is not to vow that "the meaning of your word 'otherness' is not the nature of things like seeing," but to vow in order to show that "for that seeing, the meaning of the word 'otherness' that you, the Vaisheshikas, completely examine, does not have the dharma of the object of otherness's mind and sound." Because you, the other party, do not have such a practice, you cannot show for any object such as seeing that "the meaning of the word 'otherness' does not have the dharma of the object of otherness's mind and sound," therefore our reason is also not a practice on what has already been established. In order to show the inference after that, it is said, "From the ultimate point of view, otherness does not have the nature of otherness, because it has the general characteristic and the specific characteristic, like form." Those are arranged in order as the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma of establishment, and the example. For example, form has 'form' as the general characteristic and the great general characteristic, and the color of the vase and the color of the felt as the specific characteristics, therefore it does not have the nature of the meaning of the word 'otherness'. Similarly, the meaning of the word 'otherness' examined by the Vaisheshikas, also because it has the general characteristic of 'other' returning from non-other, and the specific characteristics of the 'other' with the vase and the 'other' with the felt, it also does not have the nature of otherness. Therefore, it shows the negation of the nature of the meaning of the word 'otherness'. Or, from the ultimate point of view, otherness is not the cause of the arising of otherness's mind and sound, because it is the specific cause of mind and sound, like form.
