Some say that the statement of emptiness in the scriptures is also to refute, and doing so will harm one's own undertaking. To answer this, the commentary explains: This is not reasonable, because those who understand the categories of Dharma from the scriptures as being like a raft, think that the Dharma itself should also be abandoned, let alone what is not Dharma. Similarly, the scriptures say, 'Form is empty, inconceivable; non-empty, also inconceivable.' Therefore, holding onto emptiness is intended to eliminate other views. Since the purpose has been achieved, it should be completely abandoned. Just like the conceptualization of non-emptiness, conceptualization is also an obstacle to non-conceptual wisdom, so it is desired to be abandoned. Moreover, clinging to it will also become a great fault, so there is no fault in completely abandoning it. It is said: Those who understand the categories of Dharma from the scriptures as being like a raft, think that the Dharma itself should also be abandoned, let alone what is not Dharma. For example, a guest who wants to cross a river relies on a raft, and after crossing the river, abandons the raft and leaves. Similarly, a yogi who wants to cross the river of reality should also rely on the view of emptiness as a raft, and after crossing the river of reality, should abandon the view of emptiness as a raft, thereby going to the path of non-abiding Nirvana. The scriptures say, 'Form is empty, inconceivable; non-empty, also inconceivable.' Therefore, when a yogi abides in the practice of non-conceptual wisdom and practices in non-duality, both the conceptualization of non-emptiness and the conceptualization of emptiness are obstacles to the cultivation of Prajnaparamita, so it is desired to be abandoned. Moreover, clinging to emptiness itself will also become a great fault, so the Madhyamikas believe that even emptiness should not be clung to, because then it is not emptiness, so there is no fault in completely abandoning it. Now, in order to abandon the view of reality, emptiness is spoken of, but the view of emptiness should not also be...

Because it should be abandoned, therefore, in order to conclude the explanation of the meaning of the Middle Way by abandoning both extremes, thus, when the teachers of gods and humans, out of compassion for those sentient beings whose minds are pervaded by the poison of various faults of views, and whose suffering is unbearable and whose disease is continuous, the Victorious Ones said that emptiness is: that which liberates all views. And so on. In order to explain the meaning of the word "all views," it is said that it is all the views that are the seeds of various sufferings. In order to explain the distinction of that, it is said that views are attachment and clinging, and the detailed classifications of those are the view of the aggregates and so on. In order to explain that emptiness can definitely liberate from all views, it is said that the antidotes to those are inner emptiness and so on, for the time being, those are to abandon the view of reality, so the way of saying emptiness is explained. Now, in order to explain that even the view of emptiness is incurable and should be abandoned, those who have not accumulated great roots of virtue, whose minds have not matured, who have not generated tolerance for the profound Dharma, and who are not skilled in the path, if anyone holds on to the view of emptiness, it is said that those are impossible to subdue. And so on. In order to explain the distinction of that, if anyone clings to the existence of this, like a patient who has taken a laxative that has accumulated in the stomach, for those whose minds are disturbed by the faults of various views, originally giving the medicine of emptiness that can pacify those, but like a patient who is disturbed by great faults, it is said that those are like the Tathagata, like an excellent doctor, who cannot be subdued, therefore, there is no fault in abandoning it. Now, in order to explain the meaning of the Middle Way by abandoning both extremes, in order to conclude, like a vulgar guest saying, pull up the sunken cart, there is no reward, give me that, like this, not understanding the meaning of the words, if it is rebuked by the wise, that is not right, so I will not cling to emptiness as real, thus said.
