That which accords with this follows along, and that which does not accord does not exist. Therein, the reason of the nature of things to be proven is shown by the nature of the aspect. Following along with the concordant aspect shows the reason of the characteristic of the concordant dharma. The absence in the discordant aspect shows the reason of the characteristic of the discordant dharma. Thus, since these only show a part of the three members, the two called 'application' and 'conclusion' by the opponents are not different meanings from the three members. Incidentally, the occasion for discussion is that the two, 'application' and 'conclusion,' although not different meanings from the three members, must be stated. Since these two are not different from the three members, not establishing them as five members, the discussion should be applied to the occasion of proving that all conditioned phenomena are without inherent existence, which is sufficient to be discussed incidentally. Thus, after showing the inference that demonstrates the very absence of inherent existence, some say that emptiness of inherent existence is the meaning of non-existence and is a deceptive dharma, because it is non-existent, it is the very meaning itself, and because it is a part of the meaning of the proposition, there is the fault of incomplete proof, so the intended meaning does not change. This is what the Madhyamikas previously said: in the ultimate truth, internal things are empty of inherent existence, because they are deceptive dharmas, like the body of a woman conjured by a magician. To this, the opponents say: your proposition that 'inherent existence is empty' is the meaning of non-existence, and the reason for proving it, 'because it is a deceptive dharma,' is also the very meaning itself because it is non-existent, because it is a part of the meaning of the proposition, so the establishment

is false, because it is a deceptive dharma. The so-called "conditioned" refers to the inner things. The so-called "false" refers to emptiness of self-nature, that is, the emptiness of self-nature of the imputed. The so-called "because it is a deceptive dharma" means that because it is a reversed appearance, like the body of a woman transformed by a magician. Therefore, in order to establish the proposition that conditioned things are false, when the reason "because it is a deceptive dharma" is stated, you say here that the so-called "false" refers to emptiness of self-nature, which means non-existence. The so-called "because it is a deceptive dharma" also means false and non-existent, because it is part of the proposition, so there is the fault of incomplete proof, so the desired meaning cannot be established. This is not right. If the "deceptive dharma" mentioned in my reason means false and non-existent, then falsehood does not exist, so what is deceived? If even the term "deceptive dharma" does not exist, then the "deceptive dharma" mentioned in my reason is not false and non-existent, but means reversed appearance. Therefore, conditioned dharmas are empty of self-nature of the imputed, because they are reversed appearances, like the body of a woman transformed by a magician. The reason shown in this way is not part of the proposition, so there is no fault of incomplete proof, so the desired meaning can be established. In order to show this principle, if the meaning of the reason of the proposition is non-existence, then what is deceived? Nothing will be deceived, because it is non-existent, like a rabbit's horn. Therefore, it is considered that the very sentence saying "conditioned things are false" is also non-existent. Saying this, if I truly promise that the inner things are empty of self-nature, then the meaning of the reason "because it is a deceptive dharma", if it is false and non-existent as you say, then what is deceived? Nothing will be deceived, because it is non-existent, like a rabbit's horn, if it is like this.

The Blessed One's statement that "conditioned phenomena are false" does not even exist, according to the Sutra school, and this can be understood as follows. These, too, are sequentially applied as flawed statements with a subject, a property to be proven, a proving property, an example, and a closely connected conjunction. For example, since a rabbit's horn does not exist, it cannot have any deception, so the rabbit's horn appears false, just as that statement itself does not exist. If, as you say, the meaning of my established reason does not exist, then because it does not exist, it cannot have any deception. If the statement that the Blessed One said "conditioned phenomena are false" does not exist, then if it is not so, then the meaning of the present should be revealed in reverse from those flawed statements. Therefore, because the meaning of the present is revealed in reverse from those flawed statements. Therefore, the meaning of "false and deceptive dharma" spoken by the Blessed One is not non-existence. What is it then? The meaning of the two is the emptiness of the nature of conceptual imputation and false appearance, so the meaning of the proposition is not one-sided. Thus it is said. The meaning of the Blessed One's statement that "conditioned phenomena are false and deceptive dharma" is not completely non-existent as the opponent says. The meaning of false is emptiness of nature, that is, emptiness of the nature of conceptual imputation, like the body of a woman conjured by a magician; the meaning of deception is false appearance, like the false appearance of the body of a woman conjured by a magician. Therefore, in my proposition that "in the ultimate sense, inner phenomena are empty of nature," the statement "because it is a deceptive dharma" is not one-sided in the meaning of the proposition. Because the reason "is a deceptive dharma" is well known to both the proponent and the opponent, it is established as the reason itself, in order to show that the Madhyamaka view is realized. Because false appearance is also well known to both sides, there is no incompleteness of the reason.
