Therefore, by association, whatever is done here is seen as impermanent. For example, just as a vase made of clay, sticks, and wheels, etc., is impermanent, so too is sound made by the throat, lips, and tongue, etc., and is therefore impermanent. By making this application of association, and by concluding, adding "because it is also done in this way, it is impermanent," then the meaning of the promised reason becomes clear. Therefore, both association and conclusion must be placed as separate limbs, they say. If the reason is stated only for the property of the example, then the meaning of the reason is not established, because if you Buddhists state the reason "because it is made" only with the property of the example, i.e., the vase, then in order to prove that sound is impermanent, the meaning of the reason "because it is made" is not established. This is because the vase is made of clay, sticks, and wheels, etc., which sound does not have, so with the reason that the vase is made of clay, sticks, and wheels, etc., sound will not become impermanent. Therefore, both association and conclusion must be placed here as limbs, it is taught. If the reason is stated for a common property, then showing the concomitance is meaningless. Because the property of the example is also shown universally, because if you Buddhists state the reason "because both the property to be proven, sound, and the property of the example, the vase, are common," then the concomitance "whatever is done here is seen as impermanent, like a vase, so too is sound" is meaningless. Why? Because "because it is made" is also shown universally for the property of the example, the vase, so the property to be proven, sound, and the property of the example, the vase, are the same, therefore the vase's

It becomes meaningless to represent sound with examples. Moreover, instead of stating "what is made" in general, by connecting it and saying "whatever is made here is seen as impermanent," for example, a pot is made of clay, sticks, and wheels, etc., and what is made is impermanent, similarly, sound is also made by the throat, lips, and tongue, etc., therefore it is impermanent. Thus, through the statement of connection, and by adding at the end, "because it is made in this way, it is impermanent," the meaning of the proposition's reason becomes clear. Therefore, both the connection and the conclusion must each be placed as separate limbs. If one shows that the reason's concomitance exists in the example, then one must state other words that show its connection with what is to be proven. That is, if you Buddhists say that although in both the dharma to be proven and the dharma of the example, there is the common reason of "because it is made," but when making the statement, one must show the reason's concomitance in the example, but it is not necessary in what is to be proven. If that is the case, then just as one shows the concomitance in the example by saying "whatever is made here is seen as impermanent, like a pot," one must also say in what is to be proven, "whatever is made here is seen as impermanent, like sound," if it is necessary to use other words to show the connection with the reason, then you must also say that. Therefore, after stating the reason for what is to be proven, one must show the conclusion of concomitance with the example, therefore, both the connection and the conclusion must each be placed as separate limbs. If one says that by stating at the end of the proposition, it can be connected with what is to be proven, then this statement is a question raised by the opponents to the Buddhists. That is, if you Buddhists say this: at the end of the proposition "sound is impermanent," stating the reason "because it is made" can connect with the dharma to be proven, therefore, for any statement that fully states the three limbs, there is no need to add the connection and the conclusion. As an answer to this, if that is the case, then sound is impermanent.
