Moreover, because the actions within oneself are the agent itself, therefore it possesses the agent itself; because the internal actions that are different from the nature of the person transform into others, therefore it possesses other agents, so the suffering caused is caused by oneself and others, and so on. The Samkhyas say that all things other than the person are of the nature of pleasure, passion, and darkness. When the element of passion is greater, the object of the activities of the body, senses, and aggregate of consciousness is suffering. And that suffering depends on its own nature, and what is done by the agent who possesses the agent itself is done by oneself; depending on the person, what is done by the agent who possesses another agent is done by another, therefore suffering is done by oneself and others. Then, how is it that depending on its own nature, it possesses the agent itself? Because the actions within oneself are the agent, therefore it possesses the agent itself, that is, from the nature of having more passion, ego arises, and from ego arise the senses and those, the arising of ego from having more passion is an internal action arising from the nature of passion, therefore these are called actions within oneself. The arising of the senses and those from those actions within oneself is the nature of the aggregates, therefore it is called suffering, and the suffering is produced by the actions within oneself, which is called possessing the agent itself. How is it that depending on the person, it possesses another agent? Because the internal actions that are different from the nature of the person transform into others are the agent itself, therefore it possesses another agent, that is, the nature of the person is not the nature of pleasure, passion, and darkness, so the arising of ego from the nature of having more passion is the transformation of internal actions that are different from the nature of the person into others, therefore these are internal actions that are different from the nature of the person.

Other actions that have transformed are called "other." Among the internal other actions that are distinct from the nature of the self, the senses and those things arise, which are also of the nature of aggregates, and are therefore called suffering. That suffering, which is produced by the internal other actions that are distinct from the nature of the self, is called having another agent. Thus, the suffering caused by having an agent oneself and having another agent is said to be caused by oneself and others. It is said that they say this: Those Shakya schools who say that the aggregates are momentary, if there is no self, then the efforts required for heaven and liberation become meaningless. Although they believe that the virtuous deeds belonging to the previous aggregates will produce results, so that the later aggregates will arise in a special way everywhere, nevertheless, those efforts made for others are unreasonable, because no one will engage in helping others. It is said that those Samkhyas who want to examine nature and the person also say this, that those Shakya schools who say that the aggregates are momentary, because there is no self to be examined as a person, their efforts for asceticism and meditation, etc., which are required for heaven, and the efforts for practice, etc., which are required for liberation, will become meaningless. Because the aggregates are a momentary continuum, just as the efforts made by Devadatta for heaven and liberation are meaningless for the continuum of sacrifice. Why? The Shakya schools believe that the results produced by the virtuous deeds belonging to the previous continuum of aggregates will cause the later aggregates, that is, the special bodies of gods and humans, to arise everywhere on the earth, in the sky, etc., so it is enough to merely manifest virtuous deeds and avoid the evil deeds that produce the results of bad destinies. However, those present momentary aggregates making efforts for the later momentary aggregates are unreasonable, because like the wise in the world.

It is said that some, though wishing for good results, do not actually act for the benefit of others. In response to this claim, here, by way of explanation, the previous refutation of the one-sided definition of "person" is repeated, and that very verse is reiterated, stating: "For the moment, suffering is not made by the self, but is done by the purusha." This means that, for the moment, suffering is not made by the purusha (person). Because, according to the Samkhya school, nature is the maker, while the purusha is the enjoyer, just like the relationship between a blind man and a cripple, so the purusha is not the maker. If it is said that it is made by the inner agent, then the Samkhyas might say that in their theory, the inner agent, different from the nature of the purusha, is the maker of suffering. To refute this view, the teacher thinks that the inner agent is mainly composed of particles, and the particles themselves are suffering, so suffering cannot create suffering, just as a pot cannot create a pot. Therefore, the teacher says: "That itself does not make that." This means that the so-called inner agent, mainly composed of particles, from which arises pride, is the nature of the senses and things themselves, so it cannot create itself, just like a pot. The venerable face of the teacher Nagarjuna thought so, therefore he said: "That itself does not make that." Therefore, the statement "suffering is not made by the self" is the conclusion that refutes the Samkhyas' view that suffering is not made by an agent with self-nature. Now, in order to refute the Samkhyas' view that suffering is not made by an agent with otherness, next it says: "If the other is not me, how can suffering be made by another?" and so on. This means that if the inner agent, which the Samkhyas assume to exist outside the purusha, is established, then that agent is other, and therefore the suffering it creates is made by another.
