Therefore, such as "Because of permanence, like space," etc., the subject, the thing to be proven, the means of proof, and the example should be applied in order. For example, space is not a maker because of its permanence, just as a person is not a maker because of permanence. Because of emphasizing that, it is inferred by the concomitance of permanence, and because of eliminating the nature of the maker by the non-maker. It is said that there is the fault of eliminating the nature of the subject in the proposition. The Vaiseṣikas infer by the concomitance of permanence, because permanence, like space, eliminates the maker by the non-maker. The Vaiseṣikas assert that the self is not a maker, but they consider the nature of the self, which is the subject, to be the maker, so there is the fault of eliminating the maker by the non-maker, so the proposition is not established. Moreover, if it were done by the self, then it would not arise dependently. It would not arise from the cause of the self, because action is not appropriate for the unarisen maker. The meaning of this is that the first half of this verse shows that it is explained in another way. If the Vaiseṣikas think that suffering is done by the self as they wish, then suffering will not arise from the cause of the self. In the Buddhist school, since the self, the maker, is unborn, action is not appropriate for the unborn, so suffering is not done by the self, such is the meaning. Also, if it is thought that suffering is associated with the self, the maker, then even so, it will not arise dependently. In our school, because suffering itself is called the self, the meaning of this is that the fundamental meaning of this verse is explained in another way. The other schools think that in our school, the self is born, so they think that suffering is done, so suffering is associated with the maker. Even so, it will not arise dependently, why? In our Buddhist school, because suffering itself is called the self, it is not appropriate for that itself to arise dependently from that. Suffering

It should be understood that it should not be said that it was done by them. Or, if the person himself did that action, then it will not arise depending on this. By the remainder of the phrase "other factors that act together," it also shows that the meaning of that very root of the verse is explained in another way, if the other party says, that person himself is the agent, therefore he did the virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and he also exhausts the fruit of that action, happiness and suffering, therefore saying that suffering is done by me, even so, since that person is the agent, that suffering will not arise depending on other factors that act together, therefore that is also unreasonable, thus it shows. In order to show that, suffering should not be considered to have the nature of an agent, because it is to be accomplished by many factors. For example, the violent wind shakes the branches of dry trees. The forest fire caused by friction, like the act of burning the forest, it should be understood that it is said like this. In order to show the measure of that, here, in terms of the ultimate, the subsequent inference is that the suffering of Devadatta is not of the nature of the agent Devadatta, because it is suffering, like the suffering of sacrifice, it is said like this. Those are the subject, the dharma to be proven, the dharma that proves, and the metaphor, to be applied in order. For example, the suffering of sacrifice, because it is suffering, is not of the nature of the agent Devadatta, similarly, the suffering of Devadatta is also because it is suffering, is not of the nature of the agent Devadatta. If it is said that even when the suffering of sacrifice arises, sometimes Devadatta himself is the agent, therefore it is uncertain, this sentence is the words of the other party in order to prove that the metaphor of the Madhyamikas, like the suffering of sacrifice, is uncertain, they say, sometimes Devadatta, through hitting the sacrifice and so on, Devadatta himself is the agent of the suffering arising from the sacrifice, therefore

You say, for example, that the suffering of offerings is suffering, and therefore, for example, the agent is not the master of Devadatta, which is uncertain. In response to this statement, the commentator here says: Because it is experiencing the result of one's own actions, it is not uncertain. Sometimes Devadatta causes suffering to the offering through beating, etc., because the offering itself is experiencing the result of its own actions. Therefore, the agent is not Devadatta, so my example has no fault of uncertainty. If the opponent says that even if it is experiencing the result of its own actions, the suffering that arises in it is a transformation into the form of Devadatta beating, etc. Therefore, Devadatta is the agent of it. In order to refute the previous point raised from them, the commentator here says: Even if that is its transformation, it is not the nature of the agent, and even donkeys, etc., are only nominally a part of the substance of the cause that acts together, so there is no fault. Even if the condition for the offering to experience the result of its own actions is a transformation into the form of Devadatta beating, etc., that is not the agent, for example, donkeys, etc., which are not the nature of the agent, are only nominally a part of the transformation of the substance of the cause that acts together in the offering's experience of the result of its own actions, but those are not the agent, just as my example has no fault of uncertainty. For those in whom conditioned phenomena are of the nature of destruction in each moment, for that moment of mind in which suffering arises, that agent is not possessed of it, therefore, what is said, such as 'I have done it, I have not done it,' please listen to that as well, because in the past, or rather, the Vaisheshikas said that even if the body, faculties, and aggregates of intelligence are destroyed, the self (ātman, आत्मा, ātman, self) is not destroyed, and that is also on our side as possessing the agent.
