That which is called 'that', means that the present suffering arises depending on the causes and conditions of the past. In order to establish that it is not made by me, the example of the side conforming to the Dharma is that, depending on these present aggregates, it is shown that the subsequent continuum of the present aggregates arises. Therefore, the inference here is that, in reality, the five aggregates called Devadatta are not in accordance with the maker Devadatta, because they arise dependently, just as the later five aggregates belonging to the same existence arise from the cause of the earlier five aggregates. Thus it is said, these are respectively the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma that establishes, and the example. For example, the later continuum of the five aggregates belonging to the same existence now arises depending on the earlier cause of the five aggregates now, therefore it is not in accordance with the nature of the maker, similarly, the five aggregates of Devadatta now also arise depending on the causes and conditions of the previous life, therefore it is not in accordance with the maker Devadatta himself, therefore suffering is not made by me. Alternatively, the very first verse is placed from the perspective of refuting the tenets of the Vaisheshika school of heretics. In order to analyze in other ways, or the Vaisheshikas say that although the body, senses, and collection of consciousness are destroyed, the 'self' is indestructible, and that 'self' is the only existence that exists together with the maker in their school, therefore the suffering created by it can be said to be created by me. For the faithful who believe that all phenomena perish in every moment, the moment of consciousness in which suffering arises is not with the maker, therefore it is not made by me, and it is impossible to enjoy the fruits of the actions made by others, therefore it is not made by others either, because it contradicts the limits of the maker. Thus it is said, the Vaisheshikas say that although the body, senses, and collection of consciousness of the previous life are destroyed, the 'self' is indestructible, and that 'self' is also the maker of good and non-good deeds in their school.

At that time, the karma of the previous life is both the doer of good and non-good deeds, and now it is also the enjoyer residing in the body. Therefore, the self of the present body abides as one without difference from the self of the previous life. Therefore, the suffering created by that self can be called created by me. You Buddhists believe that all phenomena arise and cease momentarily. Then, the moment of mind in which suffering arises ceases in that very moment. The subsequent moment does not possess the doer, therefore the suffering is not created by me. If you Buddhists say that the previous moment creates karma and the subsequent moment experiences the result, that is also not possible. Because in other moments, the result of karma created by other minds cannot be enjoyed by the mind of the subsequent moment, therefore the suffering is not created by others, but created by me. If you Buddhists say that although the continuum of moments is different, the result created by the previous moment will be experienced by the subsequent moment, that is also contrary to your own established tenets. Because in your tenets it is said that what one creates oneself, one will experience oneself. Now saying that the previous moment is created by others and the subsequent moment is experienced by others contradicts your commitment. Therefore, we on this side believe that the agent, the permanent and singular self, creates karma in the state of the body in the previous life, and experiences the result in the state of the body in the present life, so suffering can be called created by me. In response to their saying this, the commentator here replies: For those, that is also not possible. That suffering is not possible, because inferring the existence of a permanent and singular self is harmful. Because the agent, the permanent and singular self, as accepted by the Vaisheshikas, cannot be established as the agent, therefore the suffering created by him is not possible, so the suffering is not created by me. Regarding this, the inference here is: the person is not the agent,
