Furthermore, just as odor and taste arise simultaneously, they are not considered as self-nature and the basis of self-nature because they arise simultaneously. Similarly, self-nature and the basis of self-nature also arise simultaneously, and they are not considered as self-nature and the basis of self-nature because they arise simultaneously. If self-nature and the basis of self-nature were to become one, both would become without cause, and self-nature would become independent of the basis of self-nature, arising entirely from itself, and the basis of self-nature would also become independent of self-nature, arising entirely from itself, which is also unreasonable. The detailed explanation is as before, which means that feeling and the feeler, as well as valid cognition and the object of valid cognition, knowledge and the object of knowledge, liberation and freedom, being either prior, subsequent, or simultaneous, are also shown to be connected in the same way as before as being untenable. Here, the meaning of the refutation is that by pointing out the faults in the arguments initially stated by the opponent, it is shown that samsara is without inherent existence, which is the conclusion and the result of valid cognition. In the eleventh chapter of the examination of samsara, the meaning of the refutation is regarded as the result of valid cognition because the opponent, in order to prove that the skandhas and so forth exist, initially argues in this refutation that the skandhas and so forth truly exist in ultimate reality, because the Blessed One revealed the names and distinctions and taught the essential instructions in order to exhaust them. By pointing out the faults in the stated arguments, it is shown that samsara is without inherent existence. What is the benefit of showing that the order of prior, subsequent, and simultaneous is untenable for all phenomena such as samsara? In order to dispel the claim by others that this is merely a dry philosophical treatise that accomplishes only a small amount, here it should also be proven by relying on trustworthy scriptural sources. Therefore, in other concluding sections of the Great Vehicle sutras, it is similarly stated, "For this, nothing will ever become samsara, will ever become nirvana, will ever become completely afflicted, will ever become completely purified," and so forth. Similarly, in the Sutra Requested by Brahma

Moreover, neither samsara nor nirvana are apprehended by Brahma and others. Why is that? Because although the Tathagata indicates samsara, no one revolves there; although the Tathagata indicates nirvana, no one passes away there. Thus and so on it is said. Similarly, in the Sutra requested by the Bhagavati Mother Prajnaparamita with the power of utterly subduing, it is said: With the power of utterly subduing, form does not arise or die, nor do feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness arise or die. With the power of utterly subduing, whatever does not arise or die, namely form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, that is Prajnaparamita. Thus and so on it is said. Similarly, in that very Sutra, with the power of utterly subduing, the absence of prior, subsequent, and intermediate limits is the limit of nirvana. It is not as it is said, but the absence of limits in all dharmas is the limit of nirvana. Thus and so on it is said, and those are established. The establishment of those scriptures that are believed in that way is the merit and basis for showing that the order of prior, subsequent, and simultaneous is not reasonable for all things such as samsara. Therefore, I have not established it with my own thoughts, merely with dry speculation, but there are also those scriptures. Because of that, from the infinite Mahayana Sutra Pitaka, the display that the order of prior, subsequent, and simultaneous is not reasonable for all things such as samsara, and the fact that this treatise displays it as the object to be explained, is also the wisdom of the Acharya and the goodness of the commentators. The eleventh chapter, entitled "Examination of Samsara," from the commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, the Lamp of Wisdom, composed by Acharya Lekdenjey, is completed with extensive commentary. Completed by Acharya Chenrezig Brultuk. Volume forty-nine. Now, refuting the distinctions of the opposing aspects of emptiness.

Therefore, due to the meaning of showing the selflessness of suffering, the twelfth chapter is composed. The word "due to" should also be understood here as containing the meaning of the cause of the promise, and the meaning of combining with the text below. The meaning of the words is as before. Considering the meaning of the cause of containing the promise, now it is said, "By refuting the particularities of the aspects that contradict emptiness." Because the author of the treatise, when composing the first chapter, "Examination of Conditions," had promised that all things are unborn. Therefore, here also, one should consider how the previous author of the treatise had promised, and say so according to the meaning of the cause of containing the promise. Emptiness is one's own tenet. The aspect that contradicts it is the tenet of the opponent. For example, the aggregates, elements, and sense bases assert that self-nature exists. The so-called "its particularity" refers to the premise put forward by the other party in order to prove that the aggregates, elements, and sense bases exist, that is, as can be seen from the following, in the ultimate truth, the aggregates are merely existent, because they are suffering. Such reasons for proving that the aggregates exist are those who assert that the self-nature of suffering exists. The so-called "refuting it" refers to considering refuting it, and combining "composing the twelfth chapter" with it. Considering the meaning of combining with the text below, it is said, "Due to the meaning of showing the selflessness of suffering, the twelfth chapter is composed." Because the meaning derived from the text of the twelfth chapter, "Examination of Suffering," is to show the selflessness of suffering, so it is said in consideration of this. So, what is the result of this chapter? By what means is that result obtained? Showing the selflessness of suffering is the result of this chapter, and that result is obtained by refuting the particularities of the aspects that contradict emptiness. Therefore, when the commentator connects the boundaries between the chapters, here with skillful means and skillful means.
