It only shows the first fruit arising from... In order to show the difference of the opposite of emptiness, it is said, "Here it is said," etc. One's own school believes that ultimately the aggregates, etc., are real, because the Blessed One showed the names and differences, and in order to make them exhausted, he taught the secret. Refuting this argument, even if the aggregates, etc., have been prevented, but because of attachment to these aggregates, some of one's own schools cannot bear it, so they say these words again, and should be connected in this way. Therefore, ultimately the aggregates are real, because they are suffering, etc., and these are said. These should be established in order as the subject, the property to be established, the means of establishment, and the metaphor. Here, whatever does not exist is not suffering, such as a two-headed person. This is an example of a dissimilar category of dharma. The aggregates are suffering, because the Sutra says, "In short, the five aggregates of clinging are suffering," and it is also said in Dharmakirti's writings, "Suffering, origin, world, and the place of seeing, and existence." Therefore, this is the reason for close acquisition. Because the Blessed One said in the Sutra from the occasion of showing the three and eight sufferings, "In short, the five aggregates of clinging are suffering," and in the Abhidharma Treasury it is also said, "The five aggregates are suffering, origin, world, and the place of seeing, and existence." Therefore, the aggregates are suffering, so ultimately they are real, and should be taken in this way. Therefore, due to the power of the argument as stated, ultimately the aggregates are real, which is the conclusion and the result of the measure. Here, the Blessed One did not show that the non-existent things such as the two-headed person are suffering, so these are not ultimately real. Whatever aggregates, etc., are shown to be suffering, these are ultimately real. They say so. In order to answer what they said, make an explanation.

He (the Buddha) explained here with such reasoning: After establishing the concept of suffering in this way, some (non-Buddhists) believe that suffering is created by myself, some believe it is created by others, some believe it is created by both, and some believe it arises without a cause. This is unreasonable. Some debaters say that suffering is created by myself, some say it is created by others, some say it is created by both, and some say it arises without a cause. Making such diverse distinctions, that is not a reasonable result of action. The master (Nāgārjuna) refuted the opponent's view that suffering exists by first establishing the aforementioned thesis and then proclaiming this verse: Here, some debaters believe that suffering is created by myself, some believe it is created by others, some believe it is created by both myself and others, and some believe it arises without a cause. Suffering, which is distinguished in various ways, is not the result of actions by myself, others, both, or without cause, and therefore suffering does not exist. This shows the four theses that the opponent's argument cannot establish. The phrase "How so?" is a question asking how those four examinations are unreasonable. Among them, in order to show the first thesis, it must first be explained how, from the ultimate truth, suffering is not created by the doer, and therefore it should be explained as follows: If it were created by myself, then it should not be dependent arising. Because what is created by myself is not created by cause and condition, therefore it does not possess the nature of dependent arising. This is a summary statement, and they say "That is not allowed," and so on. Then, what do they believe? They believe it is dependent arising. This shows that the nature of suffering is dependent arising. That is to say, in order to prove that suffering is not created by myself, its characteristic is shown to be dependent arising. Because these aggregates, depending on these aggregates, arise. Because these present aggregates, depending on those aggregates that are believed to arise, arise. The word "because" here should be understood as meaning "for example." In this way, this is a word of analogy that conforms to the Dharma.
