They say, for example, although the characteristics, signs, and excellent marks, and the basis of characteristics, great beings, arise together, since they are seen as mutually causal in the manner of characteristics and the basis of characteristics, why would birth and aging and death both become causeless because they arise together? Or, because they arise together, is it uncertain whether they become mutually causal, like characteristics and the basis of characteristics? Therefore, that assertion of the Madhyamikas is achievable, they say. In response to that statement, the commentary here provides an answer. That is not an answer, because the refutation has already been shown, it is said. Previously, desire and attachment should not arise together. Thus, desire and attachment become mutually independent. It has already been shown in the context of refuting the cause of arising together, and so on. Therefore, it is also impossible for birth and aging and death to occur together, which is the conclusion of the third examination. Therefore, if we examine in that way, why do you elaborate on that birth and that aging and death, in which there is no possibility of sequence of before and after, and together? In reality, it is not appropriate to elaborate on them, because they are unborn, it is intended, which is the conclusion of all three examinations. Thus, having first applied reasoning and examined, why do you elaborate and say, 'That is birth, that is aging and death,' in which there is no possibility and no sequence of before and after, and together, for whatever birth and whatever aging and death? In reality, it is not appropriate to elaborate on them, because they are unborn, it is intended. Thus, because the reason for establishing samsara, which is endowed with birth and aging and death, is not established, it is difficult to respond to the fault of the meaning of the reason, which was first stated by the other party, not being established itself, which is the result of the general measure. Now, the teacher intends to show that just as the sequence of before and after, and together, of birth and so on, is not appropriate, it is the same for the remaining things as well.

Thus it is said. Cause and effect are the same, nature and its basis are the same, sensation and the sentient being are the same, whatever meaningful things there are. Thus, how to examine the sequence of before and after, and together, of birth, aging, and death is unreasonable, just as cause and effect, nature and the basis of nature, feeling and the feeler, and other objects that are examined as existing, all of these also show that the sequence of before and after, and together, is equally unreasonable. "Whatever meaningful things there are" is to show, valid cognition and the knowable, knowledge and the knowable, liberation and the nature of liberation, etc. In order to equally show that the sequence of before and after, and together, of these is unreasonable, it is said, "Samsara is only the prior limit, it is not existent, it is not non-existent, and all things themselves also, the prior limit is non-existent." Because if examined as it is in reality, all things do not have a sequence of before and after, and together, therefore, not only does samsara not have a prior limit, but all things that are considered as things do not have a prior limit, so things that appear as things are like illusion, mirage, gandharva city, and image, showing that they are not established. Among them, for the time being, here, let's explain a little about cause and effect, nature and the basis of nature, this is to show that the sequence of before and after, and together, of these is unreasonable. It should be known that, from the ultimate truth, the seed is not existent before the sprout, because it is the fruit, just like the nature of the sprout itself. This is to show that cause and effect do not exist beforehand. These should also be combined in the order of subject, predicate, reason, and example. For example, because the sprout is the fruit, it does not exist before its own nature, similarly, it should be known that the seed is also the fruit of other conditions such as soil, so it does not exist before the sprout. If the fruit of different continuums is not determined by the previously produced times
