Because it is to vigorously prove the truth of conventional reality, your assertion has declined and the basis is not established, so that is also not acceptable. Or the other party says that the eye arises the function of seeing, so it sees, because there is the name of the function. For those who have not arisen the function of seeing, it is not said that they perform the function of seeing, like the ear. Because the eye has the function of seeing, the name of seeing is established that the eye sees, if it is said like this, the teacher says with the statement called "explanation": Seeing is not the nature of seeing, non-seer does not see. This first half of the verse, or the other party says, in the world there is the name that the eye sees, through this way of inferring, the eye has the function of seeing, so seeing sees the form. The teacher declared it to refute this statement, thus showing. Those words of the other party should also be combined in order with the subject, the proposition, the reason, and the dissimilar example, to become a syllogism. If so, seeing is not the nature of seeing, because the other party has not truly shown that the function of seeing has arisen for some seers, and before seeing produces the function of seeing, seeing itself has not been established. The meaning of understanding this is, if the other party says this, it is also not acceptable, because seeing itself is not seeing. Why? Because the other party has not shown in any way that for a true seer like Devadatta, the function of seeing has arisen, and before seeing produces the function of seeing, when it has not arisen, seeing itself has not been established, if inferring through the name that the eye sees in the world, the eye has the function of seeing, so seeing sees the form, this is not acceptable, the teacher thinks so. Because it is difficult to show that previously it was not seeing, and later it has the function of seeing. Non-seer does not see. If the other party says that seeing is not seeing before the function of seeing arises, but later when the function of seeing arises, then

If it is said to be so, it is difficult to explain by any means of inference, because it is not a seer, so it is not a seeing. In this way, is it not that the meaning of the reason is not established? Or is it because the meaning is contradictory, so the vow is broken? This is both the conclusion and the result of valid cognition. Analyzing in this way, if it is established from the perspective of ultimate truth, then the meaning of the reason is not established, and if it is established from the perspective of conventional truth, then the meaning of the reason is contradictory. The other party says that the eye produces the act of seeing, so it is said to be a seer, because there is a name for the act. For those who have not produced the act of seeing, it is not said that they are seers, such as the ear. The eye has the act of seeing, so the name "seer" is given to the eye, and the vow that says this is broken. The above refutes those who believe that the eye itself is the seer. Here, the use of "what is said by the Samkhya and Vaisheshika schools" etc. is to indicate that I (Pudgala) am the seer, and the eye is the agent of the act of seeing, and I see form through this eye, which is to refute the views of those who say this. Therefore, in order to explain their tenets, it is said that "it is seen through it, so it is a seer, because the reason for the act is stated for the agent" and so on. The seer, I, see form through the agent of seeing, the eye, so the eye is called a seer, because it is said to the agent, the eye, that "it is seen through it, so it is a seer," which is because the reason for the act is stated for the agent of seeing. What is that agent? That is the seer, and it is also seen through it. That is to say, the agent of seeing, the eye, is possessed by the agent, I, and this I is called the seer, and the seer also sees form through this eye. For example, a woodcutter uses an axe to cut the wood to be cut, but the axe itself cannot cut, similarly, the seer, I, also sees the object to be seen, form, through the agent of seeing, the eye, but the agent of seeing, the eye itself, cannot see.
