Whatever has a greater proportion of darkness is firewood. Earth is considered to possess the sense organs of form, taste, smell, and touch. Therefore, the fire pervades and burns the firewood because the nature of the three qualities is the same, it is neither other, nor is it dependent on the agent and the manner of action. It is said that, because of this, the faults that the Madhyamikas previously pointed out in the view of considering it as other, such as constant burning, no burner, meaningless creation, and no action, do not exist in the view of the Samkhyas. In response to their saying this, the commentator here replies: Those are also not truly fire burning firewood, because it is one of the elements, like water and so on. It should be refuted as before. The fire that the Samkhyas have completely examined, because it is one of the elements, is not truly of the nature of burning, like water and so on. This is what is to be explained. If the meaning of the pledge is analyzed and it is thought to be a different nature from it, or not a nature, then the attacker will say that it will cause damage to the previous view and there is no example. This is to say that the opponent refutes the previous inference of the Madhyamikas, that fire is not burning firewood, then what is the meaning of that pledge, the reason that was presented? The nature of fire is not burning, but other, such as moisture, etc.

Because it is not the meaning of obstruction, therefore, there is no commitment that fire is the self-nature of water and other things, so the oath is not broken. It has been established that earth and other things are not the self-nature of burning, and it is established as an example, so it is not without an example. It is enough to have a broad analysis, which says that the previous verses have broadly shown the meaning that fire and wood are not otherness, so it is enough. Now I will explain the paragraphs of the following verses, which is the concluding remark. Also, with "Also, other" etc., it also shows that these words can also become words that have loopholes in the side that admits that fire and wood are otherness. In order to show that, it is said, "If it is other, it does not touch, if there is no touch, it does not burn, if it does not burn, it does not die, if it does not die, it dwells in its own characteristics." In order to show "If it is other, it does not touch", it is said that if fire is otherness, then it does not touch wood, because it is otherness, just like that it does not touch wood. Those are combined in order as dharma, the dharma to be established, the dharma to be established, and the example. For example, fire is far away from wood, it does not touch, because it is other than wood, it does not touch wood, similarly, fire is otherness, and it is also other than wood, so it does not touch wood. In order to show "No touch, then no burning", it is said that if there is no touch, then there is no burning, because here fire and wood also want to be related and touched by the nature of the agent and the action. If fire does not touch wood, then there is no self-nature of the agent, and if wood does not touch fire, then there is no self-nature of the action, similarly, here fire and wood do not touch, then there is no connection between the agent of burning and the nature of what is to be burned, so if there is no touch, then there is no burning. If even without contact it burns, then because it is in one direction, it will burn all the goers, so contact is unreasonable, even if it is otherness, while burning it is wood, it is unreasonable to say so. If it does not burn, then it does not die.

To explain the meaning of "U," it is said that if it is not burned, it will not die, because it can be established even without fuel. Like this, if fire burns fuel, then the exhaustion of fuel will also lead to death. If it is not burned, death will not arise from a causeless source. Even if there is no fuel, fire can be established, then even if fuel is not burned, it will not die. To explain "If it does not die, it abides in its own characteristic," it is said that if it does not die, it will abide in its own characteristic, because it can constantly abide without its own cause. If it does not die, fire, without its own cause—fuel—can still possess its own characteristics such as burning, appearing, and incinerating, and constantly abide. If that fire is different from fuel, or not different, if someone insists that it is different, then what kind of fault will be faced? Therefore, it is considered that there is an opportunity to take advantage of the view that admits it is different, and it is pointed out whether the other party admits it is different, thereby questioning. If it is admitted to be different, then the faults of not touching, not being able to burn, not dying, and not being able to abide in its own characteristic will be faced, as the Sutra author thinks. Therefore, here, because there is an opportunity to take advantage of it, it is possible to establish the meaning of the circumstances of the dharmas such as not touching, so the inference should not be expressed by its power. That is to say, for the view that claims it is different, in the previous verse, if it is different, then it does not touch. If there is no touch, then it cannot burn. If it does not burn, then it will not die. If it does not die, then it will abide in its own characteristic, because there is an opportunity to take advantage of it like this, it is possible to establish the meaning of the dharmas of not touching, not being able to burn, not dying, and abiding in its own characteristic, that is, touching, being able to burn, dying, and not being able to abide in its own characteristic, relying on the opportunity to take advantage of it, the different entity, not touching, not being able to burn, not dying, and abiding in its own characteristic.
