Saying, "I will cause harm," even if you think that fire and firewood are the same, but since people see fire and firewood as different, this will cause harm, so it should not be considered that these two are the same. If, because of the fear that being seen will cause harm, you do not think that fire and firewood are the same, then in order to answer this previous point raised from the other side, the explanation made here itself completely abandons it, therefore it contradicts the tenet. Saying, "contradicts the tenet," because you have completely abandoned the statement that "fire and firewood are the same" here, therefore it contradicts your own tenet that you previously promised that these two are the same. If the other party says that the faults of contradicting one's own tenet, etc., arise from admitting sameness, therefore we do not admit sameness, then in order to answer this previous point raised from the other side, the explanation made here itself says, "Because it has not been admitted in this way, there is no harm to admission," even if it is said to be other, because fire and firewood are not admitted to be the same, there is no harm to admission, but therefore fire and firewood are not established as the same, this is the concluding remark. Thus, for the time being, saying that fire and firewood should not be the same is the conclusion and the result of valid cognition. In order to show that the second examination is unreasonable, if it is thought to be other, therefore it is said: If fire is different from wood, then it should also arise without wood, because it is a different entity, like something different from that. This is what is thought. For example, fire that is different from water, because it is different from water, so even without water, fire will arise, similarly, fire that is different from firewood, because it is different from firewood, so even without firewood, there will be the fault of fire arising, this is the concluding remark. In order to show that it is unreasonable for fire to arise without firewood, saying, "Like this, the matter of fire existing without relying on firewood," even those with minds attached to appearances do not approve of it. This also says: If fire is different from wood, then it should also arise without wood.

This latter half of the verse also indicates that if fire and wood were different, then there would be a possibility of fire arising without wood. Because this statement indicates that the opponent says that fire and wood are different, but by refuting this claim, it is evident that the inference that fire and wood are not different is shown. This shows that the nature of fire and wood is interdependent. The preceding text shows that the reason for proving that fire and wood are not different is that they are mutually dependent. Therefore, what is to be explained here is that the inference that fire and wood are not different is shown by things such as "wanting to infer by the power of meaning." In reality, fire is not different from wood because it is dependent, like the nature of wood itself. These words should be applied in order to the subject, the property to be proven, the property of proof, and the example. For example, the nature of wood itself is not different from wood because it is dependent on its own nature. Similarly, fire is not different from wood because it is dependent on wood. This shows that, with fire as the subject, it is not different from wood. Similarly, in reality, wood is also not different from fire because it is dependent, like the nature of fire itself. These words should also be applied in order to the subject, the property to be proven, the property of proof, and the example. For example, the nature of fire itself is not different from its own nature because it is dependent. Similarly, wood is not different from fire because it depends on fire. This shows that, with wood as the subject, it is not different from fire. If fire and wood are different, then all dependent things are uncertain, because the opponent says that the Madhyamika's argument "because it is dependent" is uncertain. Because in the world, all things such as pots and cloths are dependent.
