It is unreasonable, because it does not observe its own nature. Those who say this are saying that if it does not have the ability to observe its own nature, then it also does not have the ability to observe other natures. Those who speak of arising, such as the Madhyamikas, say: When observing one's own nature, it does not observe itself. When does it not observe itself? How does it observe others? The meaning of the reason stated in this way is a statement that establishes uncertainty. It is shown in this way that the meaning of your own establishment, Madhyamika, is not true, but fabricated. The eye does not observe form because it does not observe its own nature. Those who say this mean that if the eye does not have the ability to grasp its own nature, then the eye also does not have the ability to grasp other natures. If that is the case, what is the fault? Therefore, if that is the case, it is also uncertain, as it is said. If that is the case, you have the fault of an uncertain reason. Why? Even if fire does not have the ability to burn its own nature, it does have the ability to burn other natures, as it is said. Is it that the eye does not have the ability to grasp its own nature, so it does not grasp others? Or is it uncertain whether it is like fire, which does not have the ability to burn its own nature, but has the ability to burn other natures? Therefore, like fire, observation and so on can be established. For example, fire is a burner, but it only burns others, not its own nature. Similarly, observation is also an observer, but it only observes others, not its own nature. To answer that, the commentator says here: To strongly establish observation, the example of fire has no power. The eye is the nature of observation. To strongly establish this meaning, the fault of stating an uncertain reason is stated. Those who say this are those who speak of arising.

In order to thoroughly prove that the eye is the nature of seeing, even if fire does not have the ability to burn its own self, it does have the ability to burn others' selves. Therefore, using the example of fire to point out the fault of the Madhyamaka's argument as uncertain cannot thoroughly prove seeing. This example is not permissible and impossible, which is the final conclusion. Why? Because from the ultimate truth, fire is not established as a burner, and in the conventional truth, it is not established as the nature of seeing. Therefore, the author of the sutra thinks so. We Madhyamikas believe that from the ultimate truth, fire is not established as a burner, so you say that fire does not have the ability to burn its own self, but it does have the ability to burn others' selves. This example is not established. Moreover, in the conventional truth, the eye is not established as the nature of seeing its own self, so it is not established as the nature of seeing others' selves. The author of the sutra thinks so. Alternatively, in order to thoroughly prove seeing, the example of fire is impossible. This is to point out the fault of the argument. That is to say, in order to thoroughly prove seeing, the example of fire is impossible. Some people think that seeing is seeing forms, and as an argument, fire can illuminate its own self and others' selves. In order to point out this fault, the Madhyamaka says that in order to thoroughly prove seeing, the example of fire is impossible. Why? Because the nature of fire can illuminate its own self and others' selves, which is not present in other schools. Moreover, in the conventional truth, it is not established as the nature of burning. Therefore, the author of the sutra thinks so. The nature of fire can illuminate its own self and others' selves, which is not present in our school and other schools, because there is no darkness there. Moreover, in the conventional truth, fire is not established as the nature of burning its own self, so it is not established as the nature of burning others' selves.

The author of the treatise thought thus. Therefore, if fire can manifest the self-nature of itself and others, then it should also burn the self-nature of itself and others, shouldn't it? If it is said that fire only burns others and does not burn itself, then how can fire burn others without burning itself? Similarly, seeing only looks at others and does not look at itself, how is this possible? If fire can manifest the self-nature of itself and others, then seeing should also be able to see the self-nature of itself and others. If this is not the case, then the example of fire cannot be used to establish seeing. Even in conventional truth, the self-nature of fire is heat, not burning. Therefore, burning is the result of fire causing wood to change, not the self-nature of fire. Burning is the power of fire causing wood to change, not the self-nature of fire. Even if you think that fire does not have the ability to burn itself, but it has the ability to burn others, this example cannot be used to establish seeing. Furthermore, in order to establish seeing, the example of fire cannot be used. Because the example of fire has already been answered with seeing by means of gone, not gone, meditation, and observation. Therefore, gone and not gone meditation have answered the question with seeing. Containing seeing means containing views. What is it? It is the example of fire. What did it do? It answered the question. Who did it? It was gone, not gone, and meditation. Just as it was said before, in ultimate truth, gone, not gone, and meditation cannot be reached, because it has already gone, because it has not gone, and because meditation cannot be understood apart from gone and not gone. Similarly, in ultimate truth, fire cannot burn wood that has already been burned and is being burned.
