The so-called "harming the prior cause" refers to the Samkhya school's view that the effect pre-exists in the cause, but due to the subtlety of the effect, such as smoke and dust, and mosquitoes, etc., existing in the void, although they are there, they are imperceptible due to their subtlety; the effect is suppressed, such as the light of stars and the moon, etc., being suppressed by the sun, although they are there, they are imperceptible due to being suppressed. Regarding these statements, in the case of subtlety and suppression, the state of being coarse and unsuppressed changes from non-existence to later existence, therefore, the state of being coarse and unsuppressed of the effect is not pre-existent. Therefore, the Samkhya school's assertion from the former aspect that the effect pre-exists in the cause is unreasonable because it causes harm. Although the effect pre-exists in the cause, the reason for imperceptibility is stated in the Samkhya school's treatises: "Extremely far or extremely near, weakened senses or no mind, subtle or obscured, suppressed or mixed." It is said to be so. Those who think that the subtle exists, and then the coarse can be seen, for their assertion, because the existence of the coarse is inferred, thereby excluding the existence of the subtle, therefore there is the fault of contradicting the nature of the dharma. The so-called "having the fault of contradicting the nature of the dharma" refers to the Samkhya school's view that the effect is subtle in the state of the cause, and later in the state of the effect, it will appear as coarse, they say: "Because it is subtle, it is imperceptible, not because it does not exist, but it can be perceived from the effect." Regarding their assertion, because the existence of the coarse is inferred later in the state of the effect, thereby excluding the existence of the subtle in the state of the cause, therefore, in the state of the cause, the nature of the effect's dharma is subtle, which contradicts their claim, therefore it is unreasonable. That is to say, it can be inferred in this way: for example, the effect is coarse in the state of the effect, because it exists, so it is not subtle. Similarly, the effect is subtle in the state of the cause, because it also exists, so it cannot be subtle.

Therefore, the idea that the effect exists in the cause in a subtle form is not established. In the tenets asserted by the Vaibhashikas and others, whatever exists is the present, because it is inferred to exist in the present. In order to eliminate the difference between past and future effects, there is the fault of eliminating the difference of the subject of the proposition. This is because the Shravaka Vaibhashikas and others also assert that the two times of past and future exist just like the present. Whatever exists is the present, therefore, they admit that the two, the effect that does not exist from the past and future, and that which did not exist before, exist just like the present. In order to eliminate this difference, there is the fault of eliminating the difference of the subject of the proposition that those two exist just like the present, therefore it is not permissible. Therefore, the two, past and future, do not exist just like the present. Some say that the cause does not produce the effect, but eliminates it in this way. To those who say that, it is also refuted by saying, "What does it eliminate like what?" This is because among the Samkhyas and others, some say that the cause does not produce the effect that did not arise before, but eliminates the effect that previously existed in the cause in the form of potential. To those, it is refuted and examined, "The cause eliminates the effect, what kind of object of what condition does it eliminate like?" If it is said that it is like a lamp eliminating the existence of a pot, this is saying if they say that. The answer of that side is that, in the doctrine of non-origination, ultimately, the lamp does not eliminate the pot, because it is the object of the eye, and because it is obstructive, and because it is colored, and because it is tangible, and because it is expressible, etc., for reasons such as these, for example, like a donkey, the inference has already answered. This is saying that previously, when examining conditions, in the context, the inference has already shown that. Chapter Forty-three. Among the Samkhyas and others, those who consider themselves wise say this: "The unarisen effect and the destroyed effect also
