Furthermore, the eye, from its own position outwards, does not have the power to discriminate objects. If it knows only after contact, then there will be no obstruction and clinging. This is what is said. Therefore, this shows that the sense of the eye does not grasp what is in contact with the object. Similarly, ultimately, form is not the grasped object of the sense of the eye grasping what is in contact with the object, because it is conditioned, like sound and so on. This shows that form is not the grasped object of the sense of the eye grasping what is in contact with the object. These are also, in order, the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example. For example, sound and so on are conditioned, therefore they are not the grasped object of the sense of the eye grasping what is in contact with the object, similarly, form is also conditioned, therefore it is not the grasped object of the sense of the eye grasping what is in contact with the object. If it is said that since it has been revealed in both directions, the eight inferences will not be established for either side because one side excludes the other. This is what the opponents say: You Madhyamikas, with the inferences that refute the Vaisheshikas who believe that objects can be grasped without contact, also exclude grasping without contact; with the inferences that refute the Samkhyas who believe that objects can be grasped only with contact, also exclude grasping with contact. Therefore, for you Madhyamikas, it is not established that the eye grasps objects without contact, nor is it established that it grasps objects with contact, so your view cannot be established. To answer this statement, it is explained here that because there are not both, the view that one wants to not establish is established. Ultimately, because there are not the two views of the Vaisheshikas who believe that objects can be grasped without contact, and the Samkhyas who believe that objects can be grasped only with contact, therefore we Madhyamikas establish the view that we want to not establish these two extremes. For those who think that the rays of the eye go towards the object, thereby grasping the object, it should also be said that this is because in the treatises of the logicians it is said that the sense of the eye is with rays, so the rays of the eye go towards the object, thereby grasping the object.

Because they have the wisdom to think that the eye grasps what encounters the object, therefore, for them, it should also be explained by saying, "How should this be said?" Connect it like this. In conventional terms, it should also be known that the eye sense is not with radiance, because it is the factor for seeing forms, just like forms. Also, connect the subject, the thing to be proven, the reason for proving, and the example in order. For example, the form of the wick of a lamp is the factor of the lamp that sees the form of a vase, therefore, it should be known that it is not with radiance, similarly, the eye sense is also the factor of the eye's consciousness that sees forms, therefore, it should be known that it is not with radiance. Whatever visible form is with radiance, for example, the form of the sun. The eye sense is an invisible form, therefore, it is not with radiance, understand it like this. If it is said that the eye sense is only with radiance, because it is the eye sense, like the eyes of bats and other creatures that walk at night. This is the wise ones, criticizing the Madhyamikas' statement that the eye sense is not with radiance, thinking that there is harm without contradiction and error. They should also connect the subject, the thing to be proven, the reason for proving, and the example in order. For example, the eyes of bats and other creatures that walk at night are eye senses, therefore, they are only with radiance, similarly, the eye sense is also the eye sense, therefore, it is only with radiance, they say like this. In response to their saying like this, here, through explanation, it is said that it is not reasonable, etc. Why is that not reasonable? It is said that the eye sense is invisible. Whatever visible form is with radiance, for example, the form of the sun. The eye sense is an invisible form, therefore, it is not with radiance, so the example cannot be established.
