Having not spoken of the [other-birth] verses, here also, because of following the refutation of other-birth, the refutation of other-cessation should also be spoken. Thus, it is shown how the root birth is not produced by self and other, and similarly, the root cessation is not ceased by self and other. Those who say that destructible things are destroyed by the cause of destruction should be told this, thus showing that the tenets of those who believe that destruction has a cause are unreasonable. In order to show the validity of this, that which is definitely known to be the cause of destruction of something is not its cause of destruction, because it is different from it, just as others are different from it. These should be applied in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example. For example, the cause of destruction that is different from its cause of destruction is not its cause of destruction because the destruction is different from it. Similarly, that which is definitely known to be the cause of destruction of something is not its cause of destruction because the destruction is different from it. Therefore, having extensively established this, because birth, abiding, and cessation have been eliminated, the reasons and examples stated by the opponent at the beginning of the analysis are, in ultimate truth, unestablished and non-existent. If reasons and examples are stated in conventional truth, then they are contradictory. This is the conclusion and the result of the valid cognition in this context. Because of concluding from the perspective of the result in the manner as stated, there is no conditioned thing because birth, abiding, and cessation are unestablished. To this, the opponent believes that, in ultimate truth, the conditioned aggregates, elements, and sense bases should only be held to have the nature of conditioned things, because they possess the characteristics of conditioned things such as birth. Whoever says this is unestablished, and this is the general conclusion and the result of the valid cognition at the time of analysis. Those who say that, in ultimate truth, conditioned things such as cows only exist because they have their characteristics, such as the vulva, etc.

The reason for saying this is that words such as "also" indicate this: Previously, it has been shown that the general characteristics of conditioned phenomena, namely arising, abiding, and ceasing, are to be refuted. Now, through particulars, etc., it shows that the investigation of whatever is certain as the respective characteristics of conditioned phenomena is to be refuted. And those proofs are also related to the subject, the dharma to be proven, and the proving dharma. The refutation of them is also done in the same way as the inference shown after the refutation of the general characteristics of conditioned phenomena. Therefore, in the same way, should it be debated and examined whether characteristics such as concealment are with characteristics or without characteristics? If they are with characteristics, then those such as concealment do not represent the very nature of a cow or the very nature of conditioned phenomena, because they are with characteristics, like the substance of a cow. If they are without characteristics, then because they are without characteristics, they themselves cannot be established, so their characteristics cannot represent the basis, as explained in detail as before. Just as it was said before: If arising is conditioned, then it will have three characteristics. If arising is unconditioned, how can it be a characteristic of conditioned phenomena? Through these words, in reality, it is not considered that arising, etc., the very nature of conditioned phenomena, is the characteristic of conditioned phenomena, because they are conditioned phenomena, like the basis of characteristics. In reality, arising should not become the characteristic of unconditioned phenomena, because it is unconditioned, like space, so it harms its own inference. If the wheel, which is the basis of characteristics, is also the characteristic that represents another great person who is the basis of characteristics, then it is uncertain. If someone says that, then the wheel, which is the basis of characteristics, does not represent the very nature of conditioned phenomena to another great person who is the basis of characteristics, so there is no inconsistent aspect, so it is not uncertain. Just as the refutation and answer of the inference have been shown in detail, here also: If the characteristic is conditioned, then it will have three characteristics. If
