It should be combined in order. For example, the mind that thinks "This is a cow," when seeing shadows, etc., that do not have the nature of horses, etc., the mind of a cow arises, because it is an object with the nature of a cow, without other horses, etc. Therefore, its object is other than the nature of a cow, without things like horses, etc. For those, without separate observation, there is cessation in the manner of prevention. Just as there is cessation of the absence of things like horses, etc., the mind that thinks "This is form," when seeing form that does not have the nature of taste, etc., the mind of form arises, because it is an object with the nature of form, without other tastes, etc. Therefore, its object is other than the nature of form, without things like tastes, etc. For those, too, without separate observation, there is cessation in the manner of prevention, so there is also cessation for the absence of things like tastes, etc. They say so. Showing in this way, in their treatises, the meaning of sound is the elimination of others. For example, when the sound "cow" is spoken, it eliminates all other things like horses, etc. Therefore, it eliminates other things like horses, etc. For those who have no things, without separate observation, there is cessation in the manner of prevention, so there is cessation for the absence of things like horses, etc. Similarly, when the sound "form" is spoken, it also eliminates all other things like tastes, etc. Therefore, it eliminates other things like tastes, etc. For those who have no things, without separate observation, there is cessation in the manner of prevention, so there is also cessation for the absence of things like tastes, etc. The valid cognition that establishes that the meaning of sound is the elimination of others is that the mind of form is an object without others besides its own nature, because seeing it will produce its mind, for example, just as seeing shadows, etc., that do not have the nature of horses, etc., will produce the mind of a cow. That is to say, just as when the mind of a cow sees a cow, the mind of a cow arises, therefore, the mind of a cow is an object without horses, etc., other than the nature of a cow, so the mind of a cow also eliminates the object, all other things like horses, etc., except for the cow, similarly, when the mind of form sees form, the mind of form arises, therefore, the mind of form

Consciousness is different from the nature of form, it is a container of objects without taste, etc. Therefore, the consciousness of form also excludes all other things such as taste, etc., except for the object form. How does the consciousness of form, with its container having nothing other than its own nature, exclude all other things such as other tastes that are different from the nature of form? Similarly, the sound of form, with its container having nothing other than its own nature, also excludes all other things such as sound that are different from the nature of form. Therefore, the meaning of sound is to exclude others. They say that. In order to answer their saying that, here the commentator says: That is not reasonable. Why is that not reasonable? Because he himself said that the reason is not established. The reason of those who say to exclude others is that seeing that, the consciousness of that arises, because he himself said that the reason is not established, so it is not reasonable. How is it not established? What is the meaning of the reason that seeing that, the consciousness of that arises? If that word refers to form, seeing that form, the consciousness of that form arises, if this reason is established, then if so, seeing form and the arising of the consciousness of form, that cannot be a container having nothing other than its own nature. Because it will become a container having the nature of form, therefore the consciousness of form is not a container having nothing other than its own nature, thus establishing it is not established, so the reason is not reasonable. Or if it is established that the consciousness of form is a container having nothing other than its own nature, then it cannot be said that form is seen, nor can it be said that the consciousness of form arises, because in this way a consciousness of a container that has nothing will arise. Therefore, just as sound is not grasped by the eye, consciousness also does not see form, nor does the consciousness of form arise. In this way, for the consciousness of a container that has nothing, there is also no consciousness of the nature of form, therefore, relative to the consciousness of having the nature of form, taste, etc.
