I say this because it is unreasonable: existence, whether it is another existence or itself, is not reasonable. Why? Just as birth is not produced by itself or by others. Why is it said that birth is not produced by itself? As it is said: This birth, because it is not born, how can it produce its own nature? If something that has already been produced can produce, then what else does something that has already been produced need to produce? Because these words were spoken. Why is it said that birth is not produced by others? As it is said: If birth is produced by something else, then it will be endless. If non-birth can produce, then everything will be produced in the same way. Because these words were spoken. Similarly, here too: existence, because it does not exist, how can it exist its own nature? If something that exists can produce, then what else does something that exists need to exist? These verses of detailed explanation, because they follow the line of reasoning that denies birth being produced by itself, so the denial of existence being existed by itself should also be stated in this way. If existence is produced by something else, then it will be endless. If non-existence can exist, then everything will exist in the same way. These verses of detailed explanation, here too, follow the line of reasoning that denies birth being produced by others, so the denial of existence being existed by others should also be stated in this way. Therefore, just as the fundamental birth is not produced by itself and others, the fundamental existence is also not existed by itself and others, this is shown. Therefore, in this way, because existence does not exist, birth is the only existence. Because if it exists, there will be the dharma of arising, so it is difficult to answer that the meaning of this reason is not established. This is both the conclusion and the result of valid cognition ( प्रमाण ,pramāṇa,valid cognition). In this way, because existence does not exist, the previous opponents said that birth is the only existence, because if it exists, there will be the dharma of arising. Here, for something that does not exist, if it exists, there will be no dharma of arising, just as a turtle does not have hair, so there will be no clothes produced from it. For something that exists, there will be the dharma of the nature of existence arising, therefore, according to the reason stated, birth is the only existence.

The meaning of that was shown to be unestablished. It has already been established that abiding, one of the three characteristics of conditioned phenomena, is also unreasonable. Now, in order to establish that cessation is unreasonable, the previous position must first be placed nearby. Therefore, it is said here: In the ultimate sense, the arising and abiding of things are only existent, because there are dharmas that act together with them. Here, whatever does not exist does not have dharmas that act together with them. For example, like the absence of cessation in a horse's horn. Arising and abiding have the dharma of cessation that acts together, therefore, by the power of the reason stated, in the ultimate sense, arising and abiding are only existent, so it is said. Those are also the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma that establishes, the example of the dissimilar class, the connection of proximity, and the conclusion, arranged in order. Here, like the non-existent horse's horn, those that do not have the dharma of cessation acting together are non-existent in the ultimate sense. Those arising and abiding that have the dharma of cessation acting together are only existent in the ultimate sense, so it is said. When that is said, in order to answer that, the commentator himself says here: The cessation of things, whether it is ceased or not ceased or something that is ceasing, if it becomes like that, then all those ways are unreasonable, therefore it is said, "Therefore it is said," and so on. It shows that cessation is unreasonable in all three ways of examination. Among them, in order to show the first way of examination, it is said: Cessation does not cease, because if death also becomes dying, that is not possible. In order to show the second way of examination, what has not ceased also does not cease. What is empty of cessation does not cease, because there is no cessation, like abiding, so it is said. Those are the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma that establishes, and the example, arranged in order. For example, abiding, which is empty of cessation, does not cease because there is no cessation, similarly, what has not ceased, which is empty of cessation, also does not cease because there is no cessation. In order to show the third way of examination, what is ceasing is also not like that. It does not cease.
