Those things that have arising, such as sprouts, are called things that have arising. If we examine the arising of these things that have arising, does the thing arise as existent, non-existent, or both existent and non-existent? All these ways are shown to be unreasonable. To show that very reason, it is said: For a moment, existence and non-existence are not reasonable to arise. Neither is existence and non-existence itself, because that has already been explained above. Thus it is said. To remember what has already been explained above, in the treatise on no arising, it says: For the meaning of non-existence or existence, a cause is not suitable. And, when a dharma exists, non-existence and existence-non-existence cannot be established. Because these have already been explained, there is no need to strive further. Thus it is said. Furthermore, for a thing that is in the process of ceasing, arising is not reasonable. Because it is in the process of ceasing, just like being in the process of dying. This shows that all things are connected with impermanence, therefore arising is not reasonable. Those should also be arranged in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the reason, and the example. For example, just as being in the process of dying is in the process of ceasing, therefore arising is not reasonable, similarly, being in the process of ceasing is also in the process of ceasing, therefore arising is not reasonable. If one says that there is no fault with arising for that which is not in the process of ceasing, then, if one says that it does not cease at the time of arising, because there is arising, there is no fault. To show that this is also unreasonable, whatever is not in the process of ceasing, that is not reasonable as a thing. Because it does not possess the characteristics of a thing, like a flower in the sky. It is said with this in mind, that if a thing does not cease at the time of arising, then it is not reasonable as a thing itself. Those should also be arranged in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the reason, and the example. For example, just as a flower in the sky does not possess the characteristic of a thing, which is ceasing, therefore it is not reasonable as a thing, similarly, that which is not in the process of ceasing is also as a thing

Because it does not possess the characteristic of cessation, it is not acceptable as a thing. If it is said that existence itself is uncertain, then those opponents raise objections to the Madhyamika's argument that 'a thing possesses the characteristic of non-cessation,' saying that it is uncertain and therefore unacceptable. They argue that existence itself is acceptable as a non-ceasing thing, so why should something that does not cease, like a flower in the sky, not be acceptable as a thing simply because it does not cease? Or, it is uncertain whether something that does not cease, like existence, should be acceptable as a thing simply because it does not cease, so it cannot be an argument in itself. In response to their statement, the commentator here says: Because it is related to impermanence, it is not established as non-ceasing, so there is no fault. Existence is also related to impermanence, so it is not established as non-ceasing, and because there is no contradictory aspect, there is no fault of uncertainty. The detailed explanation is the same as before. The source of existence itself being related to permanence, as stated by Master Aryadeva in his Hundred Verses of the Middle Way: Where is there a thing without existence? Because of impermanence, where does it abide? If a thing has become existent, it will not eventually decay. If there is momentary existence, momentary existence will not abide. Or from being permanent, it will later become impermanent. If a thing is impermanent and exists together, then impermanence will be reversed, or existence will become false. These words are quoted here in detail as before. From the three characteristics of conditioned phenomena, it has been proven that arising is unacceptable. Now, in order to prove that abiding is unacceptable, the previous position must first be established. Therefore, it is said here: Arising is only existence, because if it exists, there will be the law of arising, and so on. These are applied in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example. Here, what does not exist now exists.
